2 Samuel, Week 18 - Day 2: The Danger of Half-Measures
from Pastor Steve’s Daily Devotionals · host Village Church RVA
2 Samuel, Week 18 Day 2: The Danger of Half-Measures Devotional David made a decision that looked fine and was rotten underneath. He brought Absalom home from exile, then refused to look him in the eye. It pleased no one. It fixed nothing. For five years a father and a son lived in the same city and never spoke, and that festering wound eventually tore the kingdom apart. Half-measures feel like progress. They are not. Half-measures are hypocrisy. They let you feel like you are doing something while you dodge the hard work of actually changing. You may be handing God half-measures too. You show up to church but you have not surrendered your heart. You read your Bible but you do not obey it. You say you forgive while you nurse the grudge. God does not want a slice of you. He wants all of you, because Christ is Lord over all of you. Real healing and real growth take full commitment. The thing you are avoiding will not shrink if you half-address it. It will grow in the dark until it destroys what you were trying to protect. Bible Verse “Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.” — Proverbs 19:20 (ESV) Reflection Question What area of your life are you trying to fix with half-measures instead of fully surrendering to God’s way? Quote “Half measures never work. Half measures always ultimately end the same way, because half measures are hypocrisy.” Prayer Father, forgive me for the half-measures. I have given You compromise and called it obedience. I am done with that. Make me a man of wholehearted obedience, even when it costs me, because You are worth all of it.
