2 Samuel, Week 19 - Day 1: When Lies Find the Right Moment
from Pastor Steve’s Daily Devotionals · host Village Church RVA
2 Samuel, Week 19Day 1: When Lies Find the Right MomentDevotionalEver made a snap decision you regretted, simply because you were exhausted and someone told you exactly what you wanted to hear? That is no accident. Lies are strategic. They do not show up when you are rested, clear-headed, and surrounded by people you trust. They show up when you are worn down, isolated, and already leaning toward a conclusion.David was fleeing his own son. He was humiliated, tired, and grieving. Then Ziba showed up with food, supplies, and a story about Mephibosheth. David swallowed it whole. He did not seek the other side. He did not stop to ask whether the story was complete. He was too tired to discern, and that weariness cost him. This is not just an old story. It is a warning aimed straight at you. The lie that wrecks your closest relationships will not arrive on your best day. It will arrive when you are already tempted to believe the worst about someone you love.Guard your heart in those moments. Slow down before you react. Ask God for clarity before you make a decision you cannot take back. He is faithful to give wisdom to those who ask, and He knows the full story even when you only have one side.Bible Verse“The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.” — Proverbs 18:17 (ESV)Reflection QuestionThink about a time when you made a quick judgment based on one side of a story. What would have changed if you had paused and sought the full picture?Quote“The listener’s weariness is the soil within which lies take root.”PrayerLord, guard my heart and my mind when I am exhausted and weak. Give me the wisdom to slow down, seek the truth, and refuse to be deceived by what I only want to hear. Amen.
