In the ancient world that death carried a specific meaning. Deuteronomy 21 describes a man hung on a tree as one who bears a curse. Absalom died under the weight of his own rebellion. It is a haunting picture.But here the story turns. Every one of us has rebelled against God. Every one of us deserves that curse. And yet Jesus Christ, the sinless Son of God, willingly went to a tree and bore that curse in our place. He did not die to make a name for Himself. He died to glorify His Father and to bring us home.Galatians 3:13 tells us Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us. That is the Gospel in its rawest, most beautiful form. The difference between Absalom and Jesus is everything. One died in rebellion. The other died as a sacrifice, out of love.You are not under that curse anymore. Christ took it.
