2 Samuel, Week 22 - Day 1: Peace Doesn’t Build Itself
from Pastor Steve’s Daily Devotionals · host Village Church RVA
2 Samuel, Week 22 Day 1: Peace Doesn’t Build ItselfDevotionalConflict stopping and peace being restored are not the same thing. You know this. The hard conversation ends. The tension goes silent. And you tell yourself it’s handled. It isn’t. Quiet is not healed. The silence tricks you into thinking the work is done when the hardest part hasn’t even started.David learned this after Absalom’s rebellion. The battle was won. The kingdom was still in pieces. And David did not sit back and wait for his people to come crawling to him. He moved first. He sent messengers. He made costly calls. He crossed the Jordan toward them, because that is what restoration actually looks like.Paul says the same thing in Romans 12:18. You pursue peace. You do not sit around hoping it shows up. It takes initiative. It takes humility. It takes you making the first move even when every part of you insists the other person should go first. This is hard. It is still the call. And hear this: you are not doing it on your own steam. The God who came after you while you were still far off is the same God driving you toward the people who wronged you. He walked toward you first. Now you walk.Bible Verse“If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.” — Romans 12:18 (ESV)Reflection QuestionIs there a relationship in your life where the conflict has stopped but the restoration has not yet begun, and what would it look like for you to take the first step?Quote“David crossed the Jordan towards his people because that is what reconciliation looks like.”PrayerLord, give me the backbone to move toward people instead of waiting for them to move toward me. Help me pursue peace the same way You pursued me. Amen.
