2 Samuel, Week 25 Day 4: Fear Is Not From God Devotional Anxiety is one of the most common experiences among believers, and one of the most misunderstood. It is easy to call worry a personality trait or a medical issue and stop there. Scripture goes deeper than that. Fear, at the root, is a spiritual battle. That is not a small thing. Paul wrote to Timothy plainly. God did not give us a spirit of fear. That spirit has a source, and the source is not the Holy Spirit. When fear grips you and keeps you from living with confidence in Christ, that is not neutral. That is an attack. Satan cannot touch the throne of God. So he comes after God’s people instead. He uses discouragement, worry, and dread to paralyze believers and keep them out of the freedom Christ bought for them. A frightened church is a useless church. The enemy knows that. Here is the truth that changes everything. You are united to Christ. Christ has already defeated the enemy. Because of that victory, you have no ultimate reason to be afraid. Not of the culture. Not of death. Not of anything this world throws at you. Fear says the worst might happen. Faith answers that even if it does, Christ holds you. That is not wishful thinking. That is the promise of God. Walk in it today. Bible Verse “for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” — 2 Timothy 1:7 (ESV) Reflection Question What specific fear has been quietly draining your confidence in God lately, and what would it look like to bring that fear directly to Him in prayer? Quote “Your anxiety is spiritual warfare. It’s not solely a physiological problem. Even if it is in part, it is a spiritual problem. Because Satan wants you discouraged. He wants you worried. He wants you frightened.” Prayer Lord, I confess I have given fear space in my life that belongs to You. Take it back. Replace my anxiety with the power, love, and self-control You have already given me by Your Spirit. Amen.
