2 Samuel, Week 28 - Day 2: The Strike That Saves You
from Pastor Steve’s Daily Devotionals · host Village Church RVA
2 Samuel, Week 28 Day 2: The Strike That Saves You Devotional You have done something you knew was wrong and felt that weight drop into your chest. Immediate. Heavy. That feeling has a name. It is conviction. And it is one of the greatest gifts God gives you. When David finished numbering his army, Scripture says his heart struck him. The Hebrew word there is violent. It is the same word used for striking down an enemy in battle. That is not a tap on the shoulder. That is God grabbing hold of your attention. Our culture tells you guilt is a problem to be managed, minimized, or medicated away. That is a lie. Conviction is not your enemy. It is proof that God has not given up on you. The Holy Spirit uses that sharp, uncomfortable feeling to stop you cold and turn you back toward the Father. Sit with that. The God of the universe has every right to walk away from you when you sin. Instead He comes after you with conviction. He will not let you drift without a fight. That is not punishment. That is mercy in action. If you have felt that strike this week, do not run from it. Do not numb it. Do not explain it away. Sit in it. It means God is still working on you, and that is very good news. Bible Verse “And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment.” — John 16:8 (ESV) Reflection Question Is there an area of your life where you have been ignoring or suppressing conviction rather than responding to it honestly? Quote “That strike you feel when you’ve sinned is not God abandoning you. That strike is God refusing to abandon you. Conviction is mercy.” Prayer Holy Spirit, thank You for refusing to leave me alone in my sin. Give me the courage to listen when You convict me and the honesty to call my sin what it is. Amen.
