2 Timothy 3

from Hearing with Faith · host Joshua Purdy

2 Timothy 3 is about the importance of holding onto the truth and avoiding false teachings in the church. The chapter begins by describing the characteristics of people who will be prominent in the last days--people who are selfish, greedy, boastful, and unholy. Paul warns Timothy to stay away from such people who try to convince others to turn away from the faith. In contrast, Paul tells Timothy to continue studying scripture and to use it to teach others. He reminds Timothy that all scripture is useful for teaching, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness. Paul also describes his own hardships and suffering while preaching the gospel, and reminds Timothy that anyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will face persecution. Paul urges Timothy to remain strong in his faith, and encourages him to continue the work of the ministry.
