Shrine 20: Breaking Bread. Location: 55.203627, -6.981327Speaker: Tricia Kealy, proprietor, Kealy's Seafood RestaurantTheme: gathering to eat, drink and thrash out ideas through conversation. In the Bible, the breaking of bread refers to how members of the early communal church, gathered together almost daily. Here, they ate their bread with generosity and simplicity and shared stories. In time, coming to break bread, especially in the Mediterranean, was considered the best way to enjoy time together, through eating and drinking and discussing matters big and small at leisure and in comfort. Kealy's Seafood Bar in Greencastle has being bringing friends together to eat and enjoy good company since 1989. Of particular note is how it was the Go To venue for two significant figures in the arts and in politics, Brian Friel and John Hume. Friel's Field Day Theatre Company had many AGMs and get togethers in Kealy's and in the quest for peace, Hume hosted many politicians from America and Europe as well as Britain and Ireland. Good food and good company are conducive to getting agreement and consensus. With its award-winning menu and lack of pretension, Kealy's played an important role in being a place where great minds could think alike or indeed, sort out their differences. A visit here is both a treat for the epicurean, but also to those who wish to salute the good work that occurred here over the years. It's said that the fondest memories are made gathered around the table and in Kealy's, you'll get a chance to add some of your own with repeat trips.URL: Kealy's Seafood RestaurantAudio taken from Donegal's Hallowed Sites on the Racontour Archive.Spotify URL: Donegal's Hallowed Sites playlist on Spotify
