2019 Flyers Season Preview (PST Show #333)

from The Philadelphia Sports Table | Philly Sports News & Views · host The Philadelphia Sports Table

The 2019 Philadelphia Flyers season is here! There's a new coach, new talent on the team, and they're hitting the ice starting this new era. Joining us this week for our Flyers Season Preview is lead Flyers writer for The Athletic Philadelphia, Charlie O'Connor. We got into a great discussion about the talent on this team and the direction we think they're heading as this new Flyers era kicks off. It's a great interview! But first, we got into some MLB postseason predictions and who we think will win the World Series here in 2019. (approx. 9:00)We then dove into how new media is drive the sports narrative for athletes these days and used the Antonio Brown saga as an example. (approx. 13:30)From there, we talked about the Eagles offense and what DeSean Jackson truly means for this team. Plus we gave our scoring predictions for the matchup this week against the Vikings (approx. 20:00)This week on the Highbrow Segment, we dissected the ongoing issues surrounding the NBA, their market in China and how Rockets GM Daryl Morey put a wrench into things this past week. This story just isn't about basketball. Once again, we are seeing where sports and societal issues correlated with each other. (approx. 26:50)Then on the Lowbrow Segment, the guys discussed one rule change that happened in a professional sports league that continues to drive us nuts.. (approx. 42:00)What we're throwing down on the Table this week is an in-depth interview with friend of the show Charlie O'Connor from The Athletic Philadelphia. As this 2019 Flyers season starts, some of the topics we dove into were the coaching of this team and possibly having too many "cooks in the kitchen". Will Shayne Gostisbehere re-emerge this season? We also touched on the Phil Myers saga and what we can expect from him in the future. What do we need to see from the newly acquired talent in Matt Niskanen, Kevin Hayes and Justin Braun? Plus much more Flyers talk with Charlie on the Table! (approx. 48:20)
