Michael Jongeneel has been the CEO of FMO since September 2021. The Dutch development bank manages a portfolio of more than €15 billion and invests in the private sector across more than 85 emerging markets worldwide, with a strong focus on climate action, reducing inequality, and sustainable economic growth. Michael studied Business Information Technology at the University of Twente and started his career in consulting at Accenture and later McKinsey & Company. In 2007, he joined Triodos Bank, where he held several executive roles, including Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director of Triodos Investment Management. After eight years at Triodos, he became a partner at Bain & Company, where he founded the global sustainability practice for financial services and advised leading banks and insurers on the climate transition and sustainable finance. Beyond his professional career, Michael has long been active in the social and non-profit sector. Among other roles, he served as treasurer of Oxfam International and was treasurer of Giro555 for seven years.
