This may not have seemed like a tax rise, but many more people will be paying more tax. The rumour was that capital gains tax rates were going to be aligned with income tax rates, which would have been a huge problem for property investors. This has yet to happen, but could take place. All the companies who have benefitted from saving on payroll through the furlough scheme, may believe that the higher rate of corporation tax is not a bad thing. The higher rate of corporation tax does not necessarily make the UK a negative place in which to invest. 25% even at the highest rate, still makes it one of the lowest in the G7.
