Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser flew 51-star American flags along Pennsylvania Avenue for Flag Day yesterday. I'm Peter Serefine with today's Liberty Minute. The mayor said she directed her team to hang the 51-star flags “as a reminder to Congress and the nation that the 700,000 tax-paying American citizens living in Washington, D.C. demand to be recognized." Washington DC is the district that acts as the seat of government identified in Article 1 Section 8 Clause 17 of the US Constitution.  As such, DC statehood is clearly unconstitutional. Therefore, any politician who talks about DC statehood is either pandering or hasn't read the constitution. Now, if Congress were to waive federal income tax for residents of DC, that would remove the taxation without representation argument. After all, the Fed can just print more money when they need it, right?
