205. Be the Role Model You Wanted with Melvis Figueroa

This week we sat down with one of the OG Striking coaches of Pure MMA, Melvis "Mel" Figueroa. We learned about Mel's personal life from his time living in Puerto Rico, to present day as a father, husband, and MMA coach. At 12 years old, Mel experienced his parents splitting up, being a father figure to his younger brother, and fighting the local kids who tried bullying him. At 27, Mel began his journey into MMA, which taught him about discipline. Mel trained with some of the best ranging from Amanda Nunes, the Miller brothers, Frankie Edgar, and more. The biggest lesson from this episode, however, is the notion of being the person that you wanted in your life. Despite his passion for fighting, Mel's main goal in life is to be the best father to his two sons. Mel's love for his family is felt and will have an amazing impact on his and their lives. Enjoy.
