Good morning, good afternoon, good evening. listening to the all-talk car podcast hosted by Pertor owners. Part of our Mercedes Live Drive series with the captain as co-host We need to play with fucking screens now you found it. Okay, off.
So yeah, when we do the live drives just for those behind the scenes with the director and the back and the producer and the sound guy with the big computer on his lap. And the big fluffy thing. Me. We've got to turn the aircon off because it blows into the mic and you can't fucking hit shit.
So, when we turn the car on, we can't see what's the recording. It blows the air in the mic and you can't hear it. So, let me put the seatbelt on. So now we're in a C200 brand spanker from Mercedes Benz.
New generation. It's made for a Pavo pack. It's not Pavo. It's the old traditional C200 had like a Garmin nav, smaller screen, and then you had to go to the C250 or the 300 to get all the bells and whistles.
But this one, they're fully loaded from day one. It's a 1.5 liter 4 cylinder that's 150 kilowatts. It feels good already. And we've got the captain driving.
So, this is a new generation. So, when we drove the last episode, the E-Class Coupe, that's the last there are of that show. So, basically we're driving a C200. The immediate thing is that it's a baby brother of the S-Class interior.
So, you've got, it's not the twin screens like the E-Class. You've got the rectangular screen in front of you, but you've also got a rectangular screen if you've noticed the captain's angle towards you slightly. Like it looks balanced. But it's all the back in the head of the BMEW used to do it.
Instead of fighting with a Evo portrait style or Tesla horizontal style, Mercedes gives you a rectangle, a square. That's it. That's it. And it works.
I like it. It's all right. So, now you're in S. It's a sports sport sport.
And then individual sport sport comfort on ESP. Where should we put it? Comfort. Comfort.
When you get to the track, you can put it in sport instead of difference. Now, okay. So, now you're fucking around with everything. You can notice the up and the up and the up.
You can get it. Where's the back button? There. Oh, there it is.
Okay. So, back to Donnix. So, this is the problem. You can see how the buttons were in the E class.
We're now in the new generation and there's no, it's fuckable buttons. It's pretty intuitive though. You reckon? I think you like these haptic.
So, I don't even, if I look, if you sit with it for about 10 minutes, I think it's pretty intuitive. Okay. So, you had down the bottom in yours, there was all buttons. That's just one big bar.
And you can either push it as a button. And then what happens to me today is I slid it on the volume and it went full blast. Because it's also haptic. Oh, I see.
So, it's a bit, you know, how you go on. Yeah, we go. I said, how you control your volume from there? Yeah, it's steering wheel.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, you've got three buttons that did the same thing. It's not a bad thing. I mean, you've got options.
What's what you used to? What do you think? I don't mind it so far. So the interior is pretty funky.
I just do what I do. It's more of an odd car. Look, you know what, for a 200, just initially what I accelerated. And so that's really responsive so far.
Yeah, and you're in comfort. So, what's the engine like on this thing? So, it's a 1.5-litre. Yeah, 4-cylinder.
With a turbo on it. I don't know if it's got a turbo. It's got a hybrid. It's got like an extra 10 kilowatts in hybrid mode or something like that.
Okay. So when that kicks in, I'm a fucking idea. But what I noticed about this, we're talking about the gearbox in yours. How was instantaneous?
It wasn't a dual clutch. No, it wasn't the camera here. So basically, this is a nine speed. Yes.
And you're not counting gears? You're not, it doesn't drive like a CV. Don't get me wrong. It's not droning or anything.
But when you've done this, it's responsive. It picks the right gear and goes. Well, you've got to gear. The one thing machines has always done well is the gearboxes are adapted to the driver.
Right? So it gets to know how you drive the car. And it gets to select. It basically adapts to you.
Yeah. So it's really good. So I think they've just evolved that. That's been technology that had forever.
The gearboxes have always been, I've never knocked back. We've been able to see his family and from where we're kids of the old man. The boxes have been great. I remember in the 80s and the 70s, they're the kick down.
So the S class of the old man, you obviously did four speed, which was unheard of back in the day. But it was slightly too many realise it takes off in second. Yes, right. And to change gears, you're a bun at the end of the accelerator.
You kick down, literally. And that's how you drop gears back in those days. We're now, I mean, it's all the electronic mode, really. But it's all familiar, a seating balance controls.
So it isn't comfortable. We haven't touched the dynamics. How good is that? Sorry.
We're not going to give you much oral pleasure. I'll provide you all the way to the other side. Oh, yeah. We're about to go on the test trip.
It actually feels quite agile as well, wasn't it? But this is the point I was making earlier. Does it feel like it feels like a big car to me? Do you feel like you're in a big...
Do you feel like you're in a small car? No. No, no, no, no. It feels bigger than yours, doesn't it?
Yeah, it doesn't feel like you're in a compact anything. No. No. And it's the C-class.
And it feels like a big car. And it's not a big car. So I don't know what you're doing there. No, I can't.
So it's in car play mode. That's why the screen's over here. OK, we should set it there. So now we're about to go on to the new section, which...
The captain's... You can feel that's different up. Yeah, yeah. And the steering tight ends.
And I think the... Get very clear. Nice. 1.5.
Yeah. This is a great little package. This is like the leading package. We haven't even gone to a 343.
I don't know how long before we get our hands on the 63, probably a while. But, mate, it's a great... You feel confident straight away. Like I've never driven this one.
This model ever. Yeah. Right. And I feel confident that it's straight away.
Obviously, you know, you spend a day with it. You'll be throwing it around really good, really nice. But can you see... Can you feel it's the next generation?
Yeah, definitely. It doesn't feel like it's what C-class is just to feel like. Yeah, this is like... Dynamically it's completely different.
You can feel it's... Yeah. It's a new model. Yeah, you can feel it.
And we were saying about the head up, this place, there, the big, frick finger. So you can fit the logbook in there. But even like things like, they've really reshaped everything. We just touched on the interior.
So it's like a nightclub in here. You can change the colour to whatever colour of the rainbow you want. It's in purple mode. I don't mind that.
Mine was the same. Yeah. And it's like everything's lit up. Even the...
But things like the controls for the seats. Yes. It's a bit different. It's a bit metallicy, but more haptic than...
You know what I like though? You know, everything you touch has a quality feel to it. Which is an improvement on the older seat classes. Where, you know, they've got to be plasticy a bit, you know.
But this has a quality feel to it. Like, you know, all those stalks and everything. It feels good. Before you plant it, I want you to do something else.
I've been sunroof. You know, how you traditionally got the button? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, you can put your finger through it. There's no button here. See? I'm gonna get it.
So it's still pulling a button. You're swiping your finger. Yeah, so there's no buttons. It's just a...
I'm not gonna be rude. But... I'm not gonna be rude. But yeah.
So you're putting your finger through like a hole where the button would be. Oh, I got you. And you're... So that's the haptic.
There's no button. You're just getting it. Okay. Alright, so, you know, you said 4.1 seconds.
What'd you say? You might want the 4.4. Yeah, yeah. Let's see what's in the second.
It feels like 7. Alright, let's... 3... 2...
1... Yeah. See the gearbox? Yeah.
Like it's very smooth. Very smooth. And we're up there. We're dancing.
We're going fast enough. You can have the rev and the fart and the bell. But you're not buying an engine, you're buying it. No.
This is a leading Mercedes. Yeah, for a 200 and a C200. This is phenomenal. How good is it?
That's phenomenal. And it's about 150 kilowatts. 150 kilowatts. Yeah.
More than what the VN-V6 would do. 127 on a good day. And the fucking... That's if you had the chiptune.
Well, the pulsar triple is in the 90s that we had in 105 kilowatts. And that was like a weapon. 105 kilowatts. So, no, no, no, it's a 1.5 kilowatts.
This is a 1.5 kilowatts. Not really. So that's... You're good.
Again, behaves beautifully. Very positive on the steering. Very low. The gear shifting is good.
I like it. I like it. I buy this. Yeah.
So it's, but they're not value for money. Okay. This is the part. Yeah.
Look, remember the old C-Class leaning? They did the deals at 60. 60 gram and get you on the road with the Povo. No roof.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Well, you're basically the old classic. Yeah, the classic. Well, this is going to nine in front. And you're easy.
Get to a hundred. On road. There's a lot of technology. There's a lot of technology in this.
That. And you know, I find you really see the technology in these cars when you're driving it in sheet weather. Right. That's when you really appreciate all the stuff the car is capable of.
Everything that's happening in the background, that's when you really know. What do we say? We crash it. Oh, yeah.
That's when you really see it. Because the steering, this is not the self-centering steering. Have you noticed it hasn't really broken your rules? It's not true.
It's not true. But you see the indicator. It's telling you're there. It's marking the lines.
Yeah. It's there. But you're not even now. It's there.
Yeah. A lot of the newer cars, the cheaper cars. I'm here and watching me turn the wheel down the head. You're like, well done.
I'm sure. Yeah. So they're really kind of, it's really car-going. It's really refined.
Oh, yeah. It's great. And for 1.5, it doesn't struggle. No.
Right. Look, let's waste it. You're not going to be racing this thing. No.
Right. But to get around, if you need to get out of the whole room, it's there. It's adequate. It's adequate.
It's adequate. And where it comes from, a country where you're doing it 150, 160, this thing would sit at 160. It's not fuel. Yeah.
This would be quite happy on the road. I think you drive this into State de Melbourne or Camarile or go north. I think you'll arrive pretty fresh. Yeah.
You'll get out of it as if you just went to the city. Yeah. You'll arrive pretty fresh. Thumbs up?
Total thumbs up. I love it. I'm a Mercedes guy. But yeah, without even putting bias aside, it's got everything that you add more.
Look. It's impressive. Very impressive. I am an Wasma Citi's guy.
Like, I love the CLS, the diesel. The A35 left us out, tasting our ounces. We've got rid of that after two years. Only because of their rims.
The A&G wheels. That's correct. That's the fuckable. This shit.
But you don't have this problem in this car. This car's probably back to the fault. I would happily put down my hard-earned for this. If you were sort of like, you know, if you're 40, 45, it's a modern looking car.
It's a great new design. You've got a couple of kids and you know that. Turn up the school. Early teens.
You know, you're not, it's not a Porsche. It's not. It's not trying to be. It's not trying to be people looking.
Yeah. I don't know with the influx of SUVs, how, you know, that's C menu on the road. I mean, now for every year, you know, that's C menu. You see a lot more GLCs, unfortunately, that SUV crazy land.
But, mate, if you're middle management, you bought one of these. Yes, it's a sign that you're doing well. Yeah, I think it's a great car. And this whole package is also a screen.
I'm not on the screen. Yeah, how could, it's like the next step. Yeah. It's, like I said, it's a square screen.
It's got everything. And the bottom of the screen's got your temperature, your air con, your HVAC controls. It's there with traditional easy ones. And I know it's, this was initially what in Tesla brought this square screen.
Yeah, the bottom of the screen. Yeah, the bottom of the screen's got it added. But it's not my seems to me again. Maybe it's my bias story.
But this seems to me like, I guess it's like, we'll show you how to do it properly. Yeah. But the way it's angled towards you, like I can notice it's sitting in the passenger seat, but it doesn't still put me off as a passenger to touch the buttons. No.
And it's all done the right way. The volume buttons on your side, where if we're in Europe now, I'm sure the volume button will be on the left. Yeah. It's all designed with the drivery mind, which is right.
You're right. It's like old 80s big W. Yeah, everything that had the national C. Everything was made to the drive.
The new three series, if you talk about its competitor, they've gone almost last generation of Mercedes, where they've got that rectangular wide screen, but it's curved towards you. It's got a bit of a bend in it, the new three series. So it still looks modern, but I think this is just taken to the next level. And then the next generation, which is the electric, the EQEs and the EQEs, have got that star screen that goes right across.
That's right. It's the next evolution of this, where this is two fixed screens, where that's got just one big screen, and that's still three screens glued together. So mate, I'm back. The only thing I really like is the drive position in this.
What do you think of the brakes? Have you noticed you're okay when you stop? Yeah. Okay, maybe it's just my fault.
I think one panel driving has corrupted me a bit. My brake foot hasn't got used to it. Again, I think it's very characteristic in the series. Oh, yes.
It's not offending. No. That's why it was jumping out of mind into this. It feels familiar, but you know that you're in something new.
Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. No, no. I've done a good job.
Just little things like the handle. It just stops. No. I'm finished.
I know. It's a great small space, though. I think it's nice. It's funky.
They've wanted to freshen it up and they have given it a whole new look. It's a new generation without it offending the old generation. You know what I mean? It's modern enough for you to notice.
That's why I'm glad we drove the E53 first, because even though dynamically that cuss sheets on this, it's a different car. But I wanted you to see what the next generation. You'd have a smile and enjoy it. I quite happily drive this as a daily drive.
So let's go back and imagine what the CLE is going to be like in the 50th. You can see where Mercedes progressing and they're moving in the right direction. I think their pricing's going to be out of control. Every car is out of control.
So, you know, that's not... And the way that they're all doing it is they're not doing deals or anything. Yeah, it's the price and that's it. Yeah.
So, there you go. So, Captain, thank you for joining me on the car. Couple of lives. Couple of lives.
So this is what we do when car makers give us their cars and listeners, like yourself, and also participate. Call us up and let us drive your car. So, appreciate that. That's good.
That's good. Listen, it's just something that we try and drive cars that aren't normal to see. You can get a feeling. I mean, everyone, we try not to get in touch with these.
We want to drive things that just, you know, something different. Yeah. Yeah. That should be boring.
How much fucking boxes can you have? They're station wagons and still see now. I want to supply a station wagon. That's right.
Get over it. I'm telling you with you there. Get over it. Beautiful.
Watch the bottom of your car. But that's a Porsche. That's a Porsche. Thank you for listening.
Right now, let's review us. Email us your questions for the Roving Report. It's hanging at autorkat.com.au. You got Instagram sends some messages.
I'm going to sort of collect those as well. And bye for now. Bye.
