from Banned Books Hosted by Banned Books

Featured text: "A Prayer for Memorial Day" A Prayer for Memorial Day. Donavon Riley and Christopher Gillespie read and reflect on a Memorial Day prayer from the Lutheran Book of Prayer — on the sacrifices made for freedom, the place and limits of civic duty, and the grace by which we are saved through faith in Christ apart from our works. SHOW NOTES: A Prayer for Memorial Day https://blog.cph.org/read/a-prayer-for-memorial-day Gracious Lord, heavenly Father, on this day we pause to remember the sacrifices made for freedom throughout the past centuries. We do indeed owe a debt of gratitude to those who have paid dearly for the liberty we enjoy. Yet, O Lord, I know that good government, peace, and freedom are really gifts granted from Your fatherly hand, as I confess in the Creed. As we remember those who have served our nation, help us to remember that civic duty, no matter how well done, does not grant entrance into Your kingdom. We are saved by grace, through faith in Christ, apart from our works. Freed from the Law's demands, I know that I am now free to serve my neighbor for my neighbor's sake. May the sacrifices of those who have gone before me serve as examples. When I meet those who have served, remind me to thank them. Almighty God, guide the leaders of our nation. Watch over those who serve in our armed forces, especially those far from home. And above all, grant that we, Your children by faith in Christ, may find a field of service in which we, as salt and leaven, may uphold righteousness, order, and peace; in Jesus' name. Amen. -- Lutheran Book of Prayer / "On Memorial Day" 065: Midweek Debrief – Hiero the Tyrant https://thewarriorpriestpodcast.wordpress.com/2021/05/26/065-midweek-debrief-hiero-the-tyrant/ ICONIC podcast: https://www.youtube.com/c/TheICONICPodcast/videos The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do, and How to Change https://www.amazon.com/Power-Habit-Why-What-Change/dp/1847946240 — CONTACT and FOLLOW [email protected] Facebook Twitter Telegram SUBSCRIBE YouTube Apple Podcasts Spotify Stitcher Overcast Google Play TuneIn Radio iHeartRadio SUPPORT Gillespie Coffee (gillespie.coffee) Gillespie Media (gillespie.media) Donavon Riley The Warrior Priest Podcast 1517 Podcast Network Support the work of 1517

The Real World Radical Media Group We live in a sick and sad world, where we value only what we can see. We see others and judge without knowing. We live in a world where social class is valued more than human quality. We live in a world where books and culture take second place, where money, lust and perversions are more vital than knowledge. We live in a world where we have forgotten traditions, values and God. Listen to The Real World with Omar Oropesa. Lewis's The Last Battle St. Philip's Church: Charleston, SC Come join us on Wednesday nights as we explore the riches of C.S. Lewis’s marvelous book The Last Battle, which is the last of The Chronicles of Narnia. It is a remarkable book on multiple levels and was awarded the Carnegie Medal back in the 1950s when it was first published. The Last Battle has some themes in common with The Great Divorce and That Hideous Strength that will make it an excellent follow-up to those two books, and like them, it has some remarkable resonance with things going on in today’s culture. It is a book that is both theologically rich and poignantly beautiful in its writing, and it can help equip us to live boldly for Christ in a culture that has lost its way. (Although this book is the last of The Chronicles of Narnia, it can stand on its own and it is not necessary to have read the other books for this class.) Thessalonians Study (Wednesday Night) Justapreacher Ministries This small-group study of the books of first and second Thessalonians started in September, 2023, and ended in April, 2024. In it, Jim addresses many aspects of the Christian life, with a focus on the end times.
