207: A White Supremacist Church No More?: Moroni Benally

from A Thoughtful Faith - Mormon / LDS · host Open Stories Foundation

On August 15, 2017 the LDS church issued the following statement: "White supremacist attitudes are morally wrong and sinful, and we condemn them. Church members who promote or pursue a “white culture” or white supremacy agenda are not in harmony with the teachings of the Church." Moroni Benally (Navajo) discusses the implications for a church where white supremacy and its many manifestations have been at the very heart of the church's identity and its organizational world view.   For the first time, the church has publically called themselves into question.   And not a moment too soon for these indigenous Mormons!
