This week we sat down with Ian Fisher - musician, long-time Vienna resident and lover and history buff of the city. And we got into it. Not surface-level “Vienna is so pretty” chat. The real stuff. Vienna is weirdly at its best when it’s under pressure. Empires collapse? Political tension? Identity crisis? Vienna: “Cool. Let’s invent psychoanalysis and some emotionally devastating music.” We talked about how this city has always produced its sharpest ideas when things are uncomfortable. Vienna thrives when it’s forced to redefine itself. And honestly? That energy still exists. The in-between identity thing (aka: Not Born Here problems) We also went deep on what it means to live away from where you grew up. You build a life here. You love it here. But you always have a lingering feeling like - should I move back? Being a musician in Vienna in 2026 Let’s not romanticise this. Things aren't great at the moment for the artists of this city at the moment. It's a struggle, as Ian explains.
