21. antisemitism in fandom
from Shit Larries Say Hosted by Annie Nonnie
For this episode I was joined by @aimmyarrowshigh from @imetyouonljpodcast to discuss all of the different ways we see antisemitism manifest in fandom (and, guess what -- daily life). Topics discussed: how we found each other online, V’s personal experiences with being a Jewish fangirl, cultural Christianity, the pressures of assimilation, a whole slew of antisemitic canards that are found in life and especially fandom, Zionism and anti-Zionism, brief mentions of history lessons I’ve taught in the past on this subject (and how high school history teachers have SO MUCH TO TEACH IN SO LITTLE TIME WE’RE TRYING), Anne Frank in our curricula, and more (including us being unable to pin down the novel Trilby as the work from which we get the Svengali character).
