21: Life or 12% Quad IPA?

This episode begins with good intentions and very strong beer. Pete arrives carrying a mystery high-ABV brew intended to be the week’s headline pour — but after one suspicious sip the lads look at each other like crime-scene investigators and quietly abandon the bottle on the table. Panic? A little. Shame? Slight. But Pete executes a flawless rescue mission to the nearest shop and comes back with two bottles of Qingdao, which promptly saves the night. The moral: sometimes the safest beer is the one you can trust to behave.With pints back in hand we launch into a full-throated debate about the Top 10 Most-Watched Sports in the World — a studio list built from TV reach, global participation and plain pub-argument power. Football (soccer) unsurprisingly dominates, but we argue hard for cricket’s global TV spikes, basketball’s global growth, tennis’s big-event appeal and the power of combat sports and athletics. Numbers are messy, fandom is messy, and the shouting is not.The mood turns thoughtful when we lament two things that feel quietly gone: regional accents and the British high street. We argue about why accents are flattening (national media, mobility, social media), whether losing an accent is gain or loss, and how the high street was hollowed out — chains, online shopping, and the slow death of the corner bookshop.
