Osmá Mission: Impossible možná nebude poslední. Tom Cruise by chtěl být jako Harrison Ford, co hrál Indiana Jonese až do osmdesáti. Vzhledem k množství vitamínových infuzí, ozónových klystýrů a obličejových kožních štěpů z miminkovských předkožek asi nebude problém vypadat v osmdesáti na šedesát. Problém je, že Ethan Hunt je mnohem méně sympatická a charismatická figura než Indiana Jones a připomíná spíše bizarní postavy Neila Breena. Jeho klaďáctví se v (dosavadně) posledním díle přelévá ve zcela otevřené mesiášství a nabývá až kvazináboženského uznávání ostatními. Vedle Jamese Bonda nebo Jasona Bournea navíc sérii Mission: Impossible chybí jednotící koncept, styl a idea.
