210 - The “How” To Love

Overview – The “How” To Love. 1 John 5:1-5. Throughout John’s entire epistle, he has been beating love, love, love, into the heads of Christians, over and over, and over again, and up until this point he has just given us a couple of ways of how we are supposed to love. That all changes today though, because in verses 2 and 3 of chapter 5, he tells us the undisputed, hands down, way of all ways, of “How” to love, in the perfect ways that God loves. He writes in verses 2 & 3 - By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. He tells Christians that they truly love other Christians by loving God, and keeping His Commandments. That seems a little backwards, doesn’t it? How does anyone love anyone else, by loving God and keeping His commandments?
