PART 2: PRACTICE MANAGEMENT AND PLAYER DEVELOPMENT 1. Not getting players enough repetitions - Repetition is key for skills development. Coaches need to structure practices so players get the maximum amount of quality reps, especially with the key skills, while avoiding any unnecessary safety risks. 2. No plan for practices - Practices need structure with a plan to maximize time on skill-building. Unplanned practices waste time and will likely miss opportunities in important areas. 3. Not adapting to attention spans - Younger players have short attention spans. We must avoid excessively long and stale activities, drills, and speeches. 4. Ignoring struggling players - Take time to give extra instruction to players who are struggling with a skill. Don't just focus on the best kids. Keep a simple roster checklist to track your allocation of coaching pointers. 5. Not having a backup plan - Coaches should always have a backup plan for drills/activities/practices in case something is not working well or there are issues with equipment, weather, the field, etc.
