212 - Child Independence

In our conversation, my mom and I talked about how parenting has changed and how important it is to find the right balance between guiding kids and letting them figure things out independently. She brought up how things like cloth diapers in the past encouraged kids to be independent sooner, while modern conveniences sometimes make it easier for kids to rely on adults longer. I agree with her point about letting kids face challenges—it’s how we learn resilience and problem-solving. We also discussed how open communication and positive reinforcement are much better than strict or authoritarian approaches and how some modern trends, like over-medicating kids, can be concerning. Overall, we both see the value in raising kids to be independent while knowing they have support when needed.
