218. Pam Beron With Support for Special Needs Parents

from HERself · host Abby and Amy

We believe that whether you are a parent of a child with a disability, or not, it is important to open up this conversation and learn the terms and language surrounding kids with extra needs. Today, we sat down with our long time friend, Pam Beron, to discuss parenting a child with a disability or supporting a friend or loved one who just received this type of diagnosis for their child.Pam has 14 years of experience teaching special education in the classroom and has since transitioned to starting her own business, Highest Potential Pathways, where she consults with families that are navigating raising a child with disabilities. Pam educates us on the most inclusive language to use, how families with children with special needs can navigate the stigmas that come with this, and how to talk to your own child about their own special needs. As a parent, it can be difficult to explain to your own children without special needs why someone with a disability is different from them. Pam walks us through examples of how to have these types of conversations. We also know that parenting a child with special needs can have a major impact. We discuss how this affects a parent personally and what you can do to support a parent who may be going through something like this.Sponsor: Free Shipping at GOODR with code ‘HERSELF’: https://goodr.com/herselfSponsor: Year’s Supply of Vitamin D3K2 and Five Free Travel Packs from AG1 with Your First Purchase: www.drinkag1.com/herselfLinks & Resources:Enroll in the HERself Self-Care CourseFollow Pam on Instagram - @highestpotentialpathwaysPam’s Website - www.highestpotentialpathways.comPam’s Course - Pathway to Your Best IEP: A Guide for Parents + GuardiansHERself Podcast Episode #22: The Best Ways To Support When A Loved One Needs YouLet’s connect!HERSELF PATREON: https://www.patreon.com/herselfpodcastHERSELF INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/herselfpodcastMEET AMY: http://instagram.com/ameskieferMEET ABBY: http://instagram.com/abbyrosegreen
