219 - On Marriage & Divorce (w/Melissa Belzer)

Episode 219 is a discussion about the topics of marriage and divorce. We have personal experience with family and friends who have gotten divorced and will share our feelings on that. Melissa and Kevin have been married for 33 years.They talk about the importance of protecting a marriage, such as not being alone with a member of the opposite sex and seeking help from the church and community, rather than giving up and getting a divorce. They also mention that infidelity and abuse are valid reasons for divorce, but otherwise, it is important to try to salvage the marriage. We explain that the problem with many marriages is that people do not think about all or many potential issues before getting married. We suggest having conversations about important topics, such as religion and politics, before marriage. We also discuss the concept of sacrifice, and how it is important in a successful marriage. We end by giving our insight into a successful marriage is with tips and tricks for a successful relationship. Some tips include: communication, forgiveness, sacrificing temporary urges for long-term happiness, not focusing on faults, and always looking for the good in your partner.
