#219, Summer in Japan.

from jENI NO PIKA PIKA NIHONGO 日本語

Hello. Welcome to Jenni's Pika Pika Japanese. In today's podcast episode, we talk about summer food in Japan in the second stage of Summer in Japan. Please listen to the audio. What we are introducing are noodles such as Zaru-soba, Somen, and Chilled Chinese noodles, which are eaten cold, as well as shaved ice and Anmitsu (sweet bean paste) to spend the hot summer in Japan. Somen is a popular cold noodle dish in summer, and an interesting way to eat somen is nagashi somen(流しそうめん). Nagashi Somen is made of bamboo split in half lengthwise, and water and Somen are poured together, and the Somen are eaten by scooping the flowing Somen with chopsticks. The best place to enjoy Nagashi Somen is on a kawadoko (川床) in Kibune(貴船), which is said to be one of the most secluded places in Kyoto. Kawadoko is a place to cool down during the hot summer months of Kyoto, with a floor placed on the Kibune River(貴船川), where you can enjoy your meal away from the hustle and bustle of the city and feel the beautiful murmur of the Kibune River in the breeze through the lush green trees. Why not experience this Nagashi Somen of Kibune as a Japanese tradition?
