22.04 Setting the Table of Christ and Culture (Part 8)

from Indigenous Faith · host Craig & LaDonna Smith

In this week's doctrine, Craig and LaDonna Smith introduce another biblical doctrine that helps us in the process of doing proper contextualization of the gospel.  It's what is referred to as the Doctrine of Separation, or, the Doctrine of Holiness.  After a brief historical review of how this doctrine has impacted many of the evangelical churches working among Indigenous people today, the Smiths seek to emphasize the incredible importance of this part of a healthy Indigenous Faith.  Without holiness being considered, one can easily slip into syncretism because worldly values and practices can take precedence over biblical obedience.  One of the leaders of the Redeeming the Culture movement stated, "I believe we can do anything right up to sinning to help reach Native people for Christ.  A believer motivated by biblical holiness says, I need to live a holy life so that men and women can see the power of God working in my life in such a way I live to please the Lord, and not man.  What a difference in these two ways of living.  As Hebrews 12:14 tells us,   Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.
