22.05 Setting the Table of Christ and Culture (Part 9)

from Indigenous Faith · host Craig & LaDonna Smith

In today's episode, Craig and LaDonna Smith help listeners understand that it is not only important to "contextualize the gospel" to each unique culture, but to contextualize God's Word by each unique culture.  Contextualization is putting the message in a context that the people group being reached can understand it by presenting it in a way that culture can understand it as clearly as possible.  But each culture that has followers of Christ in it must also have the important understanding of the context of the Scriptures themselves.  So what does that mean practically?  It means we cannot filter God's Word and all its teaching through the normal filter we use for all other aspects of life.  Such as seeing Indigenous cultures and its challenges in the filter of Native vs White.  God's Word is presented to the world through a cultural filter of Jew vs Gentile, and if we are going to develop a healthy Indigenous Faith, we need to change how we view the Bible, not from the old Anglo vs Native filter, but a Jew vs Gentile filter.  Craig doesn't miss the opportunity to remind listeners about how in His humanity, Christ is more closely aligned with Native North American cultures than He is the modern western culture.  That should have significant impact on how we view and embrace the gospel message.  This very important episode gives Craig and LaDonna the opportunity to begin addressing the last part of the quote that defines the unbiblical teaching of the Redeeming of Culture movement.  Stay tuned, you won't be disappointed!
