22. Pekudei: The Beauty Of Havdalah Services ~Wearing G-d's Bifocals
from The Jewish Mind · host Rabbi Avrohom Lipszyc
"These are the numbers of the Tabernacle, the ‘Tabernacle of the Testimony,’ which was counted by the command of Moses, the work of the Levites under Ithamar the son of Aharon the Kohain.” (-Exodus 38:21) According to Jewish mysticism this opening verse of our Torah-portion of Pekudei lays out before us the entire journey of our daily prayers, the journey of ascending and descending upon Jacob's Ladder. Additionally it defines for us the two true paradigms of G-d, one being of the Primordial Higher Paradigm of the never-changing G-d, and the second being of the 'postmordial' Lower Paradigm of the creation of G-d, our Creator. How can two paradoxical paradigms both be G-d's paradigms of truth? "(K)e-l deot Hashem -For a G-d of thoughts is G-d.” (-Samuel I 2:3) "Thoughts," plural, two paradigms. Shabbat and weekdays, two paradigms. "My child Israel," and "My servant Jacob," two paradigms. Kiddush Service brings us up into the Shabbat Higher Paradigm of, "My child Israel." Havdalah Service leads us down into the Weekday Lower Paradigm of, "My servant Jacob." However, G-d's Greater Love is all about the beauty of our Havdalah Service. --Here is a link to the printable notes of this lecture, available until April 1, 2016.
