Today's shir tanya is the second half of In yesterday's shir we learned that unlike the level of a tzaddik, the level and position of a benini is attainable by everyone This would explain the double language of the oath that the neshama is made to take before birth Be a tzaddik and not be a rasha Since not everyone can be a tzaddik, who constantly feels a pleasurable love for Hashem and detests evil He therefore continues to swear that at least, do not be a rasha, but a benini Since everyone can overcome the negative impulse and desires of the heart To refrain from doing wrong and to do good, Torah and mitzvahs At the same time, one must designate some time to work towards fulfilling the first part of the oath To be a tzaddik, to develop a disgust for evil, using the techniques that Chazal teach us For example, through thinking about what eventually becomes of all appetizing food, and so on Conversely, to develop a pleasure and joy in Hashem, by meditating on the greatness of Hashem Even though he knows that he will not truly reach that level of pleasure in Hashem Nevertheless, he must do his part in fulfilling his oath to be a tzaddik Whether or not he succeeds is up to Hashem In addition, by making it a habit to detest evil, it will truly become his second nature to an extent And by making it a habit to take pleasure in Hashem, it will evoke from above That perhaps his neshama will be granted the gift of serving Hashem with true joy By way of Ibor as explained in Kabbalah
