Tim Cartmell began his martial arts training with the Chinese styles in 1972. Tim trained to the level of eight-degree black belt in Kung Fu San Soo, and then moved to the Republic of China where he lived and studied martial arts full time for 11 years. Tim is an Asian Full-Contact fighting champion, a Submissions Grappling champion, a two time Pan American Brazilian Jiu Jitsu champion and seven time winner of the Copa Pacifica de Jiu Jitsu. Cartmell received his black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2003. Tim is the author of the book "Effortless Combat Throws" the co-author of "Xing Yi Nei Gong: Health Maintenance and Internal Strength Development" and "Passing the Guard." Tim is the translator of the books "Practical Chin Na: A Detailed Anaysis of the Art of Seizing and Locking," "A Study of Taijiquan," "The Method of Chinese Wrestling" and "Chin Na Fa: Traditional Chinese Submission Grappling." At present Tim is a third degree Black Belt instructor of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, as well as a professional MMA coach.
