All right, let's check sound levels, is it on auto? Hello, it's been a while since I've used the little mic. Turned on a little off, that's okay. You ready?
Yep, I'm sure. Yeah. Yeah. Good morning, good afternoon.
You listening to the AutoCarp podcast, live drive, friend of the show, he's been on the show years ago, the Seam shows. Joe Campo is on the show, on the episode, and we're doing a live drive, he reached out to me, and we're driving our Subaru BRZ. I think our Z. So it's got three pedals and I've got two feet.
Yeah, what do I do? You're wacky. Or, say, you can hold it in the middle. So we're driving a Subaru BRZ, which is the twin sister, brother, to the Toyota GT86.
Super, comfortable car, tight, I had to put the seat back a bit. But it holds in, it's got all the little mod cons, all the buttons, all the... Is that a stat at the screen, isn't it? Yeah, all standard.
Yeah, it's got a big screen, it's got a different thing. You've got a digital dash, you've got the tackle that goes, and I've got the speedo, can you customize it? It was that pretty much it? That's the much it.
Yeah, so you can change the levels. Yeah. But the middle and the right are standard. It's been a while, it's not, it's been a manual, yeah.
The clutch is an infetra. Yeah, I was going to say it's got to let it go a bit. Yeah, it's going to let it go slowly towards the end, because it's really touchy. So we're about to drive off from Campos Lea.
There's no bit, bit, bit, bit, bit, bit. See, a little bit back. So we're trying to get, so those are the Subaru BRZ. It's the only Subaru that's not all driving, they're lining up.
It's a little coupe. Is there a force in there? You've got to look at it technically it's a 4C. Yeah, the kids need to be amputees.
Exactly. Okay, so that's good. What's good for you? Zero room for the legs.
Yeah, so it's pretty compliant. It's, it's an angle. I haven't driven a manual in ages. So you can gear down, you can do everything.
You just pick this up. How much, how much, how much of these things now? I picked this up for 33. He had a 136.
He drove a hard bargain. I did. So 11,500 ks. So it was a pretty quick tip.
Yeah, so it's already been running. Yeah. Does this not everything you need? I was trying to get some of my work and give it a bit of a, I think I'm gonna have a neighborhood for the spring ups.
I know. If you kept going down my straight, it would have been good to put up with speed ups. Oh, okay. Yeah, it's on.
At least we can turn the wheeling, there you go. Makes all the right noises. But, you know, it's always been, so first of all, I'm driving one of these cars. It's like, it's always the criticism you hear, you know, not enough power, not enough of these.
Do you need it? I mean, it's not like you're gonna go on a track. If you're going on the, I mean, it's a good beginner's car for the track, because you're not gonna lose control. You know, you're not trying to get to it.
So, I go straight across, you wanna go to capoe it right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's no speed ups, there's no. Oh, no, not really.
There is no up, but not that often. And you think it's got a bottom out? You think it's got a bottom out? It's got pretty good clearance for a car this low.
On the driveways, you've gotta be careful than the big, deep, straight, careful. But, generally speaking, it's pretty good. It's very talky in fourth gear. If you're just sitting in fourth, you're falling down, it goes.
Yeah, you can cruise in this, I know. Yeah, you can cruise in this. You don't really have to rev it out. No.
Each gear, as we've got up to about 50, 60 then, third and fourth. That sort of, that the common gear you'll be using. You can sit in a gear and it's not revving its tits off. It's not screaming at you.
Let's do this, let's change this. So it's pretty good. It's got many moods, many modes that you can drive in here. Now we need a test track.
But yeah, it doesn't bottom out, I like it. What is it, weekend? Yeah. Seriously, should've got a 3am.
Would be better. I'll take to hear a gap and it's over half asleep. Oh, this is a place, this is a street where they've got where they filmed, packed for a hard drive. So they got, so they filmed all the house scenes in one suburb and it's got to sit down in grass, it was fake grass, they keep it consistent.
But they filmed all the outdoor park scenes down at Down East St. George Rowas. What's that for? Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, the same place. Like a false point sense, Susie. So they filmed all the outdoor stuff there, but the housing scenes were here. So, because all right, I'm not gonna stand why people enjoy these cars.
There's not enough power just to move around in the city. Yeah, we're not left behind. You're not gonna be breaking the speed. We're not speeding.
No, it just gets you there real quick. Yeah, we're not speeding. I mean, it isn't a handling. It's very compliant.
I said that earlier. It's not a BMW. You're not breaking it back. I mean, you've had a whole range of cars.
You've had BMWs. Yeah, I had a 1.3.5. I'm super powerful for its size. Yeah, probably too much power for that size car.
But this is just as much fun, but you're not going to lose your license quickly. Yeah, you're right through the gears. It's fun. I don't know if you had a unos.
Yeah, I did. It was a reminder to that. That was a real drive. That was a bit more refined.
This is a bit more raw. You get that more engine noise. You get the feel of the gearbox a bit more. The unos was much more refined to drive than this.
Was it your not a manual? Yeah, five for speed. Was that a V6? Was that a V6?
It was a 1.8 litre V6. The pistons were tiny. That's crazy. It was a millicycle engine.
It was almost like a supercharged type of deal within the motor itself, but it was standard. So it went really, again really CB, but it wouldn't get much out of it after you hit 120,000. Yeah, it runs out of path. Yeah, you had to see them around.
They were a beautiful car. Nice. It was in the other day. I took a photo of it.
This was about 25 years ago. Oh, yeah. I think you went through the four driveways. You had a patrol.
Almost 30 years. Family car. Yeah, but it served its purpose. We took a lot of trips up north with the family.
So that was really good. Touch of oversteve. And I said that in the reviews. Yeah, but not dangerous oversteve.
It's not a drifted out, but not intentionally trying to drift. But you can feel its re-bias in it. It's not dangerous. You're not oversteering to lose control, but you can feel the re-bias out turns around the corner.
I don't like that in cars. I would love this car. He used to race quarter mile. He had a few rotaries.
He was in this and he said, you could really, you know, if you took the traction off and put track mode on, you really had some fun in this. Yeah. Yeah. I reckon if you put more power in it, if you dropped the turbo, I'll do something to it, you would lose its character.
Yeah. There's a few that have done it. And they're for sale. They want about 60 grand for one with a big turbo.
Yeah. It's got 400 horsepower to the green wheels. I think that would be very hard to drive. Yeah, it loses what it's designed to do.
This is purely a little car to throw around. It's an entry level. If you're serious about tracking and you want to get into something that's not going to kill you, and the last thing you want to do, you haven't got much insurance on a race track. Smash it.
There's a lot of accidents out of this section outside East End Creek. Yeah, they call the police and have an accident at the intersection because he's too tired out from the track. It's hard. It's sure it's hard.
Yeah. I'll get you. Because you don't. There was one company that did offer tracking.
Sure. You know, with I-30N, I'll give you a bunch of track insurance for the end cars. But with this, you're not going to go too fast to lose control. I mean accidents can happen, but you're not going to be smashing because you've overcooked it.
No. It's a bit better than MX-5, is that? You know, I was expecting something similar. MX-5 was a bit shorter, a bit more, not twitchier, but this is set up to drive like that with MX-5s.
It's a convertible. It didn't have the poise and the stance and the seat on the road to carry through. The MX-5 was still, you could feel it was a shorter wheelbase and it wouldn't oversteer, but it's a bit more twitchier than that. So, I like it.
I think you've got a sofa, but you're not going to be able to keep it here. Is it a keeper? You didn't want to buy it as a keeper? No, this was sort of in between.
But you're going to keep it? I love driving it. Well, I've got factory insurance till 2028. Okay.
So, I might just hang on to it for a few years and just see how it goes. Yeah, grips, yeah, that third, fourth gear change. That was amazing. How good is that?
It's a lot of fun. It doesn't spin, but when it bottles a bit, it gets a bit of air bounces and then it controls itself. So, in a way, it could be interesting when you do that. That really makes it in.
Oh, that's nice. That's nice. The climax. The climax.
I'm not going to find the bit that I wanted. I make thumbs up. We do our thumbs up, thumbs down, can't we? No, no, no, no.
This is up. Fucking no. If you lose your license in this, you must be. You're going through a fucking school zone.
You can't. I'm laughing. You can have fun in this thing without losing your license. And at the most stage, were you scared?
Like Ross was shitting himself in the X5 out. The X5 in was a lot of car when we took that for a drive a couple years ago. And he wanted me to pull out a step of coffee because we shakin' that much, right? That was like a 1-3-5-ire.
You put your foot down. You're doing 150 before you know it. I'm driving your car. I'm not revving the tits out of it, but I'm driving it hard.
And you're not flinching. I've seen people like hold on and brace. And at no stage, when we're hitting shoulders and the seats are comfortable, this car is what it says on the box. You're getting yourself a great handling car.
A performance car, yes, in the range for the money. But it's not a V8 Commodore. You're not going to tear rubber with the streets and lose your license. But fuck this without handle.
A V8 Commodore. This is a beast. Thumbs up, Campbell. You're done well.
I'm really enjoying driving it. You could buy this for your kids and pretend it's for them, but take it off of them. It's one of those cars. The insurance won't be that much.
No, because I'm my age. It's under 1,000. 63. Well, that goes up with that.
Yeah, yeah. Well, you've become an over 40 to drive this on my insurance. Oh, yeah. So because I've done that option, it's under 1,000 bucks a year.
Okay. Yeah, you're keeping up with your own cars. Yeah. And the people at this car drive it.
Yeah. Perfect. Well, there you have it. Right us, review us.
I hope you enjoyed that. It's been an oral pleasure in the BRZ. I'm highly recommender. We're having a chance to do back to back with the Teo, the intricacies and the differences, but you'll probably get a better deal on the Subaru then the Teo, yes, they sell a full to one.
But waiting that Teo down there, Subaru Blue. What's that colour call this idea? WR Blue. It's called WR Blue.
Yep. It's my... Thank you for letting us drive your new little... It's got a name?
Not yet. Not yet. Okay. I'll let you decide what's happening is.
I think you again, Capatelli. I'm welcome back on the show and you come on any time, but thank you very much. That's great.
