Schon in den 1980er Jahren bemalte er Wände - zum Beispiel in der New Yorker U-Bahn. Natürlich konnte er auch einer ganz besonderen und berühmten "Leinwand" nicht widerstehen, nahm teil am bunt sprühenden Gesamtkunstwerk Berliner Mauer und lieferte sich dafür mit den Ostberliner Wachen ein Katz- und Mausspiel.
