23.11 Question and Answer Session (Part 4)

from Indigenous Faith · host Craig & LaDonna Smith

In this, the final episode (part 4) in this all-important question and answer session, the team continues to answer the audience's questions on the issues of Christ and Native cultures.  The earlier addressing of how Christian Native lay people should handle working in an animistic work environment spills over into the beginning of this session.   The panel reminds us that no matter how our colleagues, employers, or even others treat us regarding whether we participate in work sponsored traditional and, or, spiritual practices, our first and foremost consideration is to do what pleases the Lord.  The team then provides a number of insights on how to respond in similar way when these cultural challenges move in even closer to us when our children or other loved ones who claim Christ choose human relationships with those who are not Christian and they choose or attempt to bring their animism into our family unit.  Much more intense and personal this issue becomes when it moves from the workplace to our homes.  The panel's answers include if and when it manifests itself in our own home, or in the homes our loved ones have established beyond our homes.  Important perspective for sure!  The issue of the giving of names came up as one of the questions, because this traditional practice often has ties to the spiritism of a tribe associated with it.  Also, what about art?  That's an important question about culture for sure.  Important answers were once again provided.  We ended the Q&A session on a high note when Randy Jackson took us back to the Scriptures to remind us, in the end, that how we live out our faith must be based upon a deferential mentality of not being a stumbling block to others.  And that kind of godly attitude comes from both a love for the Lord and a love for our brethren.  What a great way to end this very helpful session to our attendees at the summer conference, and hopefully for you as well!
