Schaamte is wellicht een nog groter taboe dan faalangst. Veel mensen met dyslexie schamen zich en dat wordt meestal niet opgemerkt. Leontien kent dit van jongs af aan en begeleidt daar nu volwassenen en kinderen in. Als kind merkte zij al snel dat ze op school langzamer werkte dan haar klasgenoten en rare fouten maakte in haar schriftelijk werk die ze niet kon verklaren. Ze ging haar eigen diagnose stellen, dacht dat de enige verklaring was dat ze dom was en verborg die wetenschap. Met de grote sociale druk op school om erbij te horen en het eenvormige onderwijssysteem waar ze niet in paste, werd haar identiteit erg door deze schaamte gevormd.
