23. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott PART TWO

Kayla and Taylor continue their discussion of Little Women with part 2 of Louisa May Alcott’s 1868 novel. Topics include “domestic experiences”, what was really going on with Beth, and whether we are Team Jo/Laurie or Team Amy/Laurie. Plus, we find out via science which March sister we are.This week’s drink: Spiced Maple Bourbon Fizz via Half Baked HarvestINGREDIENTS:Spiced Maple Syrup:½ cup maple syrup2 cinnamon sticks1 TB cardamom pods1 star anise1 inch fresh ginger, slicedZest of 1 orangeMaple Fizz:1 ½ oz (3 TB) bourbon1 oz (2 TB) lemon juice1-2 dashes orange bitters1 oz (2 TB) spiced syrupChampagne, for toppingINSTRUCTIONS:To make the spiced maple syrup. In a medium pot, bring 1/2 cup water, the maple, cinnamon, cardamom, star anise, and ginger to a boil over high heat. Boil 2-3 minutes, then remove from the heat. Stir in the orange zest. Let cool, then strain the syrup into a glass jar. This syrup makes enough for about 6 drinks.In a cocktail shaker, combine 1-2 tablespoons maple syrup, the bourbon, lemon juice, and orange bitters. Add ice and shake. Strain into a glass. Top off with champagne.
