#23 Summer Fun and Water Safety Series I: Introduction to Water Safety and Drowning Prevention

As summer approaches, families look forward to spending more time in and around water. However, the risk of drowning, which is the third leading cause of accidental injury death worldwide, should not be taken lightly. In this episode, hosts Angie and Leigh kick off a new series on water safety, exploring the risks, preventative measures, essential skills to keep you and your loved ones safe this summer and beyond, and the importance of understanding beach warning flags. In this episode, you'll learn: Understanding the risks: Common scenarios where drowning can occur and factors that increase the risk. Preparing for water emergencies: Assembling an emergency kit, monitoring weather alerts, securing pools and bodies of water, and teaching water safety skills. Water safety tips for different environments: Home pools and hot tubs, natural water environments, beaches and oceans, and traveling. Understanding beach warning flags: The meaning of common flags like yellow, red, double red, purple, and red/yellow flags used to indicate water conditions and potential hazards.
