Hey film buds, For our final episode of the Summer Movie Season, we wanted to send y’all off with a bang. Something that had a little bit of it all. Sex. Violence. Heat. You know? The good stuff. Sure enough we found the perfect movies to deliver on the premise. This week, as a mirror to our previous Shark Week Episode and as a grand finale to our Summer programming, we are proudly reviewing both Piranha and Piranha 3D. But we also have a little more in store, with some information on real life predators and a brief history of the Texas Aquarena (RIP 1950-1996). Introduction - 00:00* Opening Chat* What Makes Water Scary? Deadly Predators & The Aquarena - 12:15First on the list is Piranha. Roger Corman produced and Joe Dante directed, the film is a B-movie creature-feature to the bones. It was hot on the heels of Jaws, and tapped into a zeitgeist fueled by a Horror boom at the time. We review the film as well as discuss how well it has aged, the merits of a good B-movie, and Joe Dante’s other works. Piranha (1978) - 31:24* Review and DiscussionPiranha 3D is the 2010 remake. Directed by Alexandre Aja, the film takes its cues from the original but finds new waters to swim in. It is as equally a film of its time as its predecessor, riding the Horror remake and 3D waves at the time. We discuss the film as a remake, how it achieves its goals, and how both films rank on our Summer Heat Index. Piranha 3D (2010) - 53:33* Review and DiscussionOur final discussion is a simple one. We begin with What We’re Watching. Then, we talk all about the trailers and news that came from SDCC last week. Lastly, Lauren has a request for all y’all listening out there. End of Show - 01:18:37* What We’re Watching* SDCC News & ReactionsIf you haven’t already, be sure to check out last week’s episode. Also, be sure to check in next week when we start our Back to School season. Thanks, y’all,
