236. Conversations: Holy or Common?

Tonight we will continue a discussion from Vayiqra (Leviticus) about offerings in the Temple. Most of us do not see the importance of that information for us living so long past the Temple. We are too often told, and many believe, that YHVH is not capable of tailoring a message or instruction for all people for all time, and that the messages in the TaNaKh were only for the people living in that day. I disagree. Our pastors tend to focus on messages from the Second Testament, mistakenly believing there is nothing for us in the Torah. Peter repeats Vayiqra, Be ye Holy as I am Holy (1 Peter 1:16), but of course the instructions on how to be Holy are first found in the Book of Vayiqra 20:26 and those instruction come from the instructions about the offerings, how to be Holy, not common or profane, in the first few chapters of Vayiqra.
