Hello, look, to know applause, just to clap the only show where there were threats of fun and a possibility of vomit, Deb. Well, the funny thing is, I thought about the threats of fun and that was after I had taken emergency trip for a funeral. And you're like, do we need to cancel? And I'm like, oh no, we're recording and it's gonna be fun!
And you're like, wow, I can't believe I just got threats of fun. And as for the vomit thing, you know what, vomit happens. Yeah, you, Bender, sushi, fun. Well, no, but we have to say this sentence, which is, why is there a bucket in the living room because I've been sick?
So you mean you might throw up in a bucket next to me? And I said, well, there's always a possibility of me vomiting. It's just a little more prevalent right now. And we decided, off air, that we would start with video games.
Let's just stick with that. Well, we won't. But because, and guess I would, I will freak out if we don't talk about it on TV soon, but I do have a preface to this. Okay.
Is that, you know that I talked about defeating or beating, defeating? Yeah, like a foe. Like a retinomosis, if you will. I did beat Horizon Zero Dawn.
And then I, yes, went in for a pellet cleanser, which would have been Ratchet and Clank beat that in a matter of days. It's not one of those. Yeah, it's a 10 hour game. Yeah.
So they call that usually adventure, like side scroller or not side scroller, but something like that kind of a platform platformer game. It's like, it's like a brain cleanser, if that makes sense? Yeah, it's a pellet. Yes, no, but you don't put it in your mouth.
Oh my God, I hope you don't put it in your mouth. I totally suck off my PlayStation 4. But then I'm gonna go USB vagina for it. So it's gonna even out.
Why don't I just have a James Adobe in a moment? Feel the wrath of my evil blowjob. Oh, yes. Yeah.
Which doesn't make any sense. No, that doesn't. No, yeah, no, I get it. It doesn't.
It doesn't track. Except if you blow in your closed station. I have a closed station. My closed station.
I know. I'm gonna call it the closed station. My closed station 4. Which just sounds like a space station and a porn movie, but all right.
So, so. Or the worst name like Tyre Emporium of all time. Yes. Sorry.
So I decided to get into Bloodborne, which is from the scene studio that brought us Dark Souls. Now I only bring this up in terms of the Dark Souls part. Is that Dark Souls is known for its rarity and save points and its very high level of difficulty without ever having explained how to play the game? Well, it's kind of like Mario Brothers.
No, it is not. It is more like that. But I'm more like you can't save and you think they don't really know what's going on and you just have to figure out the fuck out. Yeah.
Do you have a specific Mario game? Like original Mario Brothers. Like. Well, there were no save points at that point.
Exactly. And I don't think you had to know what was going on. You just ran and jumped on turtles and mushrooms and then. Yeah, but you didn't know what was going on.
Didn't say. And then the bad shit. Are the stars good? Are the stars bad?
Do I want to jump on this flower? Oh wait, this is a different flower. What's this flower gonna make me do? This is why I was always bad at video games.
Yeah. Yeah, you are way overthinking the simplicity that wasn't the first Mario Brothers. Well, apparently that's what happens. Okay.
Well, you'd hate Bloodborne then. Because they don't tell you how to either pick up your weapons, use your weapons, what buttons and weapons are. Drop you in a city full of effectively zombies that just keep respawning. I got like literally like what could be maybe five to ten minutes into the story where I think I'm some kind of psychic witch hunter.
I'm not quite sure. But I literally could not have gotten out of the first level. And like I tried folks. I tried.
And I was like fuck this bullshit. Doug, you have the internet. You can literally never complain about not having an alien. Yeah, but that's cheating.
I'm not. No. Okay. I was talking like tutorial, not like cheat codes.
That's no, but that's cheating. Like that's the point. I shouldn't have to use the internet to get through the tutorial. When I first started playing Inverse, that's exactly what it was.
They didn't have any tutorial on it. You just had to figure it out yourself or look it up on the internet. Yeah. I'm done with a platformer game versus a non-virtual reality.
It's not an augmented GPS based reality game. So I gave up on Bloodborne and I've talked to other people that have played it. They're like, oh yeah, game makes no sense. Difficult beyond measure because they don't explain anything.
But the thing is these people build games to make you keep playing them. If you don't like them, then people don't buy them and then there's money. Why does that kind of make me think of like the guy in Half Life that's been trying to walk to the outer border for like five years? Sure.
I don't play Half Life because it's the first person should have. What is this one of those things like the game makes no sense and they make you play it to keep playing it? Like they keep trying to keep you interested. No, this game did not keep me interested.
That's what I'm saying. I got to the literally first level was like, I'm so frustrated that I'm done great on you. You got my money. Well Dark Souls is really popular.
How popular is this one? Bloodborne? Not so much. Yeah, like I said, Dark Souls is very well known.
But they did say like in Dark Souls, I think two and three, that they kind of did dial that mentality back and give you a tutorial, tell you how to use your weapons, tell you how to equip them. Like this was like, I was literally running on the first level going, I don't have a gun, I don't have a knife, I don't have anything. It's like, oh yeah, you do. You just don't know how to use it yet.
And I'm like, well what the fuck? So Bloodborne, and I went fuck this game and started playing the Uncharted Trilogy. Except it's not a trilogy anymore, is it? No, it's a trilogy and a half, well I guess a quadrillion and a half would be six games.
Can't you just say franchise? It's a franchise. Thank you. So I got, you know, I know I like action adventure games.
It's effectively like playing Tomb Raider, but it's a dude, Nathan Drake, or it's like playing basically Indiana Jones's episode of People in terms of when they go with it like. It's a lot of puzzle solving, it's a lot of running, jumping, climbing, putting on makeup when you're up there. Sorry. Thank you.
Yeah, it's the editor's reference. This has been on the list for so long. This has been on the list for so long that it says Uncharted and I am probably on a third through Uncharted 3. This is a great franchise.
I love the remastered stuff. You know, there's been developments on a movie ever. More than a decade. Well, here's the thing though.
I do agree, the only person that could play Nathan Drake is Nathan Fillion. Having played the games, absolutely. Here's the problem though, is that since Assassin's Creed didn't do that well, they don't want to pour all of that money into an Uncharted movie. And the thing is, and it's not that Assassin's Creed was bad.
It's that it was marketed wrong. And there's a lot of mythology in Assassin's Creed to look across. I was saying to those, but okay. Okay.
And there is a lot of mythology in like from Uncharted 1 to Uncharted 4 and 4.5, which is I don't know if it's the lost legacy or the last legacy. I just call it Last Lost at work. Talk to a friend. But what if Last Lost?
So really, you don't need to know a whole lot other than like, he's kind of got rough and tumble like, he is Indiana Jones, but just a lot funnier and curses. I mean, he doesn't drop F-Bombs, but there are points in that game where like something will happen and he goes, oh shit. And I'm like, yeah, that's what I was thinking. Thanks Drake.
You said when I was thinking, and you're a fucking video game. No, I think the humor, yes. I think the humor in it is great. The fact that the weird quote unquote love triangle that happens during the second game is hilarious because when old girlfriend meets new girlfriend and she goes, oh, the new girlfriend goes, Chloe meets Elena.
And she's like, oh, so this is Elena. And she goes, yeah, last year's model. Oh, snap. Like, yeah.
And then, you know, like when they're like running from like a collapsing bridge or something. And Chloe's like, is this always happening with you? Elena's like, you have no idea. I think what you're going to enjoy about it is the irreverence of humor and the fact that they are basically playing homage to every game stereotype ever.
Well, you have an action hero stereotype. I mean, I think it's a great game. It's a lot of fun. The supernatural element kind of took me off guard in the first game, which I'll just spoil because the game's been out for God knows how long at this point.
But yeah, when you have the two weeks rule, it's been way longer than two weeks. Yeah, when you're running to Aztec zombies, like I was going to like, what the fuck? And I told my friend that I said, you didn't tell me that he goes, oh no. I kind of wanted to know what your take was when you first run into those.
Which is funny because whenever you grab a bomb like that, like Aztec zombies, all I didn't think is, oh, thank God, ninjas. Second one, uh, uh, waded up yetis. It's awesome. That just makes me think of the adventure brothers episode where he's got like the Yeti Mommy costume and he's in the building super nightclub with, it was basically like, venture man.
He's called like the thought he's some people robot he's on the date with. Yeah, anyway, sorry. I was a much computer. I don't know.
Because it's a really good and very dense episode. It's the one where they use a ghost robot to go on a date with, oh fuck what was it that way? It's like do much wrong or something. Well, he was like, venture man or something like that, but he went crazy and almost got a little rusty.
And so he became a villain. No. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We're gonna look at something.
By the way, it's rain Johnson. Right? It's still rain Johnson. It doesn't matter what you call him.
It's still rain Johnson. Which by the way, was weirdly enough on an episode of Monka just watched. Like he was an actor? Yeah.
Interesting. I don't hear it. So, take it again. I'm charted back to my charted.
I love it. I don't want it to end to the extent where I'm not even through the third game and bought the fourth one and lost last. Yeah, whatever it is. It's like I guess like it follows two of the girls.
One of which I haven't met yet. Like that's how bad I don't want this game to end. Is someone to buy it with people, the characters and I don't know who they are. I know one of them is Chloe who I love when she forces Drake to admit that he loves Elena in the second game.
Which I'll explain to you, Marty. It just might be about the ending of the second game. That when Chloe is leaving, she's like go to her. Like that whole, you know, she goes, as she's in, she goes, you know you're gonna miss a sass.
Like it's not mature. It's probably rated T for team. Because you can't just say T like you have to actually say what it is. I think we just start saying rated T and see what we can get away with.
But at the very end of the second game, you've got Elena and who was really badly hurt in the second game. And Drake was very worried about her. At the very end it's those two talking and she goes, how worried were you? I was gonna be dead and he's like on a scale of 110.
He goes, I don't know, a four? And the funny thing is you can just picture and hear and make him feel like a six man. Well, I love the guy who does his voice, Nolan North. Great voice actor.
He's also the voice of Deadpool on almost every video game. He was in con man with Alan Tudic and makes him feel really good enough. But no, no, it doesn't break. I'm sorry, I just had a flashback to that.
I was at Denver Comic Con and Nick was feeling and calling Alan Tudic and almost accidentally putting his phone in the car. Yeah. Also, like, what would you do for a number? But just as they're arguing over like how, like, I was going to scale up with him and how worried he was and he's like, well, what about a four?
And he's like, well, no, like the giant guardian guy's the demon yeti people. He's like, I don't know, they're like, what's a ten? He's like, I don't know, clowns? And she's like clowns?
He's like, yeah, I really hate clowns. And then he started arguing and she's like, you cried. You cried. He's like, no, it was raining.
He was like, it wasn't raining. He goes, you were unconscious. She goes, it wasn't raining. I wasn't unconscious.
I kept all your tears in the jar. I have proof. Like, they all just start arguing about his insecurity. It's fucking, I was laughing out loud.
Oh, again, that wasn't raining. I kept all your tears in the jar's proof. Yeah. That's like a whole other level for you.
Like, I kind of, we're not going to do it, but I remind me I will, like, YouTube show you the end of my game. Oh, I'm watching that. Because it's so fucking funny. But if they can capture that humor, you don't need to have a lot of the backstory in it.
You know what I mean? In terms of making a movie out of Uncharted. And it would make money. I'm thinking maybe they don't need to be.
They don't need all of the devs kind of build up the backstory. They don't even need to do it the game. Like, percet, you don't need to have him tracking down what he had to track. Everybody's tracking down the first one.
Oh, it was El Dorado. And then the second one, it was, huh? Did you say his penis? No, no.
You never find that. Ask the ladies. Can you always say that, gravy? The ladies.
Thank you. Um, nailed it. So that was what I've got for video games, I think. Yes.
Uh, Deb, do you want to go to movies or, oh no, wait. Movies, TV, or books? Like, give you the options. We can go to books, but I wanted to say two things first.
One, I'm not big on video games, except for English, which is not really. And Portal. I'm watching people play Portal. I don't like playing Portal.
It's not fucking terrible at it. Yeah. I'm pretty good. I was going to say, like, one of the most, like, almost emotionally visceral scenes I've ever seen.
Oh, that's the seven. No, it was the last of us. Oh, no. I haven't played it.
And I have watched the first 10 minutes. You watch the opening scene. I'm aware of it. And I'm just like, this is a video game?
Yeah. What are you doing? Right in the fields? No, my friend is, like, let me bum, um, lots of us when I'm done with everything that I charted.
Yeah. Or done being the franchise. Not like, I'm not going to get platforms on the other shit. But like I said, just the opening scene of that, you know, it's like...
The first 10 minutes. I actually played the demo, which was that. And there's a whole thing online of people playing that for their teenagers that have no idea and their reaction. And it's just like, why?
Why would you do that? Yeah. Why? Like, it follows John Harg with the head dog episode.
Yeah. I don't. Anyway, stop books. I finished listening to the wrong dead guy.
Oh, what did you think? I'm kidding. I loved it. And especially at the end.
So the elephant totally makes sense now. Absolutely. Yeah. The elephant makes sense now.
And I'll let at the very end when they have the interactions between Sally and Venice. Who's Venice? She was the lady cop from the first one. Who's Sally?
Oh, that... She's the other... What are the other ones? She's the other Marylands.
Yes. There you go. What is the name of the Maryland that's standing... Giselle.
Giselle. Giselle. Giselle. Right.
But yeah, I love it at the very end when they have like venison Sally doing like some kind of weird Catholic sprawl girl heart sex king and I'm like okay let's do this. Really? My take away from the end was they got a cat. Yeah that he named after a famous crook.
I thought they were named me Aussie. Me or C? No his name's Willie and he named after a famous criminal. That's right.
Sure. It's been a lot since I read it. Yeah. It took me a while to get through it just because I wanted to really be able to focus on it.
And you do. Because I mean focus on it. Not get through it. No like I said because there are a lot of subtle twists and turns.
Yeah he's really adept like for really that kind of cadre does go really straightforward a lot of the same and slim stuff but I found that is kind of twists and turns in the Koopai series. Well because it's funny. But I thought the writing was a little better or a little a little more serpentine. By his and team even.
By his and team. Yeah that's what you meant. There you go. Oh I'm sorry.
Anytime anybody says go serpentine I flash back to middle walk a lot since they're. But you like go serpentine. So how are you looking the whole. It is a little different than the same and slim series that's a lot I like the Koopai series in case I was wondering if they should read or not as a supernatural high series written by Douglas Adams.
Well that's exactly what it is. The Koop series is Douglas Adams the same and slim series is a little more legal got it. Okay. Well because he has kind of you know the darkness and the weirdness and the inherent evil things in Sam and slim.
Okay which is a little more got in. Especially in the very. You know that. I was gonna say especially in a lot of his earlier works because he's actually gotten a lot lighter.
Yeah. But in his earlier works it was very much visceral. Yeah exactly. No I agree.
Okay. There's a little pump easy. I don't finish in the finish in terms of timing. Civil War II Marvel Comics by Michael Bendis.
I was a little itchy about reading something called Civil War II. It was so civil about war anyway. No I agree and especially because the first Civil War by Mark Miller and Steve McNiven was such a groundbreaking comic. You really didn't have the hero split like that before.
It didn't really break the universe in half the way it did before. And that you know I mean the third kept in America was based on that comic. Well one of those things where Steve Rogers America doesn't exist anymore and I think they were trying to address that. In the movie yes.
In the comics. In the comics. In the comics it was that old Benjamin Franklin security versus freedom. Yeah.
In the second Civil War written by Michael Bendis and has a variety of artists. Yeah. So I'm not going to pick one up off top my head but I will say that it was a matter of and this is kind of interesting take on it. I liked it and I think it would I think it would cause a second Civil War in terms of the heroes.
But they find it in human who's can predict the future and they say well based on his visions should we stop the bad things before they happen. Which you know a lot of people would say yes and we would say no because some of it is like people that like bomb places and say well they haven't bonded so they're still technically innocent. Well unfortunately. Are they guilty before they commit the act.
Yes. Do you stop pre-cried or do you see what actually happens because there's always a choice. Well and yeah so I mean it gets into that and the ending I actually didn't see one ending coming with one of the characters at the very end I was very surprised on what we're thinking with Ulysses who's the second human. Oh you're dead.
Ulysses. Whatever his parents made him. No but I'm just saying character wise it doesn't really make sense. Okay.
No. No it doesn't. Yeah see. But I really liked it.
I thought a little bit of it was a bit disjointed. I thought Bendis was stretching it out but then again it was Bendis. The running gag is that he's paid by the word because he didn't have a lot of dialogue. Yeah.
And I thought he I wonder if it was an editorial edict that said by the end of this thing downplay Iron Man because he's run his course with the movies and up play Captain Marvel because she's gonna be coming so I'm wondering if by the end of it that's where it was coming from and I'm wondering is that getting that the movies maybe influence in the comics or is it a bet that the comics are influenced in the movies? Well the trend right now is to be all inclusive so I think they're just trying to especially with the success of Wonder Woman kind of promote another female character that they can market. Yeah and I think that's what they're trying to do with Captain Marvel which is it is it pretty more so? I think that's pretty more so.
Yeah. Like I said which I think will be a close production. Yeah like I said I think it'll be a very good movie but I think they are trying to play you know all inclusive is in so they want to have people of different genders and races being raised into those places of powers posted just having Tony Stark the rich white man with the drinking problem. Right.
Okay. Which I don't know if I told you I got a text message this week from my friend Anna that just said finally watch Civil War Tony Stark's a little bitch. Yeah I wasn't on I wasn't on Tony Stark's side in either of the Civil War. Because he thinks he's too smart.
But he thinks he can outthink everybody's all about this. But I was on the play devil's advocate especially the comic because he says to own it yet the register like to own a gun whereas if you have a superpower you don't have to register it. You don't need to be like you can just walk around with it. He goes you have a gun yet to be trained yet to whatever.
So for like superpowers it's like having someone with a nuke that no one ever knows about. So I can agree with his idea of a lack of security. Now whether I agree with that and what he would want to do with in the movies the Sokovia Accords or in the comics it was some kind of registration. It's all basically just a dictatorship where I was going to say and it could not be one person but it's someone having too much power to decide what everybody else is.
Well and that's not like... Captain America's whole thing was that that people shouldn't have like someone like Spider-Man. Shouldn't have to give his secret identity over to the government. Not like public though he'd think about public in the comics.
But shouldn't have to give up his secret identity for fear of his loved ones. Or should it set anonymity? Or autonomy for the entire. No it doesn't have autonomy.
He doesn't have to join the Avengers. But he can still have that. I mean he's an Avenger but you know what I mean. He doesn't have to join a group.
I mean he can still have autonomy. He just has to be registered and has all this information stored somewhere which is the opposite of having like a one-on-a-one most secret identities ever. Unless we're an ultimate Spider-Man in which case everyone fucking knew. But the thing is this was something like the X-Men cartoon made me understand when I was a little kid in the 90s.
Exactly! I mean it was a registration accident. And when I was a little kid watching the X-Men cartoons in the 90s it was kind of the first time I started to understand racism. And it went to war two.
I'm like... But it was like hey people and camps. Well it mostly was just like hey they were just born like this. They didn't do anything to make themselves this way.
Why are we being prejudiced towards them? And the thing is because some of them are or could be considered dangerous. Well yeah because Magneto got put in the camps. As a little kid in the Jewish shadow.
I know. It's like a good destination. I swear to fucking go. So anyway and now on to I think we've got...
I got two movies to talk about. Are you on TV? You can do whatever you want. Movies are fine.
Okay. Movies. One quick, one not so quick. The quick one is I watch Bright.
It's not getting greater reviews. No it's not. I agree with one of the reviewers who said from the director of Suicide Squad and the writer of Victor Frankenstein comes a new low for both of them. Ooh.
Yeah. That is a really well crafted bird. It is. I did expect more out of David Ayers and Max Landis.
I'm sure you have something to say about Max Landis eventually. Not other than the fact Max kind of won't bet you. No. He is one of Hollywood's biggest sexual predators.
Max Landis? Yeah. Really? Yes.
Okay then. That was hot on the heels of Bright coming out. Oh yes. Apparently I will be googling that later.
It was more about the fact that he doesn't know how to respond in a socially appropriate way when he doesn't yet what he feels like is coming to him. Well they have already renewed it for a sequel and that's the whole thing with Netflix not divulging viewership numbers. We don't know any of the watch tip. I did.
Well there's something that a lot of people watched it but it's much like Iron Fist where a lot of people watched it and a lot of people did not like it. So you're getting a sequel whether you like it or not. With Bright I think my biggest problem with it was that they spent a lot of time building the world when they didn't have to. Yes I understand a wand can help summon this a dark lord.
Okay that's enough right? That doesn't that sound like hold on just before. Come at me. Let me get through the point.
But like wouldn't you hear like oh they can summon a dark lord. Isn't that enough? To go that's probably bad. Yes or no.
Okay that's true. All right so so why build the world that we're I have to hear about an orc human elven war that happened thousands of years ago involving X amount of people and specific people when you're gonna just go on Dark Lord and that sounds ominous enough for me as you're gonna go. It doesn't sound great. Let's just go with that.
That is the worst description of Lord of the Rings I've ever heard. Yes. It's exactly what that was in unit with. Yes and that is bright.
And we know how you feel about Lord of the Rings. I don't like it. You haven't read about it in like a few years. I haven't needed to.
They stopped making those fucking shit movies. I think we just stopped watching them. Nope they didn't. I...
When was the last Hobbit movie? Three four years ago? It was. So I haven't had to bitch about it because they're not doing anything else.
They don't have anything else. Well that's not technically true. Until they reboot Lord of the Rings. But I need to become workin' some.
Nah it'll be like Jared Leto or some shit. I know. Or Johnny Depp. He likes wearing weird prosthetics.
So anyway. He is very busy with the Harry Potter. I was gonna say just an off-ranched guy. It's fantastic.
Yeah. The Harry Potter. Well I call him prequels. I mean it's a big arm.
But I know it's me. Yeah. Um, sprequels. Like spin off some prequels.
Sprequels. It sounds too much like sprinkles. I was gonna say squeakles. Which was the chip on some of these.
Yes. Hopefully Johnny Depp doesn't get chip wrecked. Anyway. You realize that also goes back to the origin of the podcast.
That which is me calling you laughing hysterically with Pat and Oswald and David Cross. Yes. Yes. Yeah.
I mean I wanna say he was talking about the Chipmunks movie and something about like Elden moving into the tour bus living room. Does the tape across the. Exactly. And then you can do 10 minutes on anything.
But anyway. Um so break wasn't, wow this was supposed to be a short one. I'm break. Um I like what I was trying to do.
So what you're doing? I like the idea. Bad execution. And I don't know where that execution comes from.
I think it's directing or editing. Or do you think it's writing? Well obviously I've said it's the chunk of it's the writing. Um I also think that David I always wants to have like he has the whole thing with homies though guys.
Oh yeah. Well that's why you have like people like El Diablo that look like a homie. Um they do have. I see him kind of racist.
It's kind of like a point yeah. Um that he does have like a Hispanic gang in the movie. Um and it's just like. Is it like Michael Bay black robots?
Yes. Okay. Got it. Yeah.
I mean it's it's it's rough. And I get and I get and I get and I get at least trying to do with like the Orcs have a certain culture in there. Seen a certain way. Um and that racism is looked at through a different lens of like the um not supernatural but the uh like the fantasy the fantastic you know that works and elves.
Um but to have that and then compound it with like the Hispanic gang stereotype is like it was just ridiculous. Okay here's how I feel about this. Thank you privilege white man for trying to give us your idea of what racism is. And if you want an actual good movie about cultural interactions and racism just watch District 5 and shut the book up.
No you're correct District 9 excuse me. Yeah District 5 is the uh for some reason I told you what did I say? Prequel. What a prequel.
It's pretty cool. It's pretty cool. Thank you. Um like I said watch District 9 and shut the hell up because that's actually an excellent representation about racism.
But stop before you get the channel. Yeah. It's really real. Um speaking of movies I shouldn't see um I saw it on ya.
Oh really? It's really fucking good. Well it's supposed to be really good. I watch Margot Robbie and Sebastian Center almost unrecognizable as their characters.
I don't know who they got to play the bodyguard character but he's really fucking good too. I think she's already. Allison Janney should have. Is she up for a best supporting and not maybe I'll ask her but like a best supporting and maybe like a SAG award Golden Globes, New York, the New York critics like she's got it for something.
She's for waiting. I already said SAG. Yeah. Damn it.
But Allison Janney's great in everything she does and she completely transforms herself in so many roles. Everyone always forgets she was an American beauty. But it's also one of those things where it's like you see Allison Janney and you see her in mom and she's you know white trash, trampy, hilarious and then you see her in Juno and she's you know the stepmom that just wants to love this kid and take care of her. Oh that's right.
Yeah she wasn't you know I remember that. Um small but I taught you phenomenal. I highly recommend it. Margot Robbie's already been she's been shortlisted for Golden Globes.
Exactly. But I mean I saw the trailer and I'm like holy shit. Well it's based on actual interviews and it says that and they showed the clip to the interview some of the interviews like at the very end and the thing is like it's funny but it's not supposed to be because these people are so disconnected from reality that you're just amazed by some of the show they say about. The tag lines is something along the line is you want the truth there's not one version of the truth.
Yes and you get that with Tanya and her mom and Jeff Gluelly played by Sebastian Stan. Kind of weird saying Harley Quinn married to her getting the chick kicked out of her which is soldier not really violently but like you know slaps and stuff. Um but yeah. That'd be my greatest idea for me.
I've heard his fucking barns totally putting it to Harley Quinn. Sluice. So yeah I told you. You got quiet for a second there.
You're like yeah watch that. Well it's like dislocator entire fucking head with the robot arm. I still watch it. Yeah.
That's not here. But I don't know. Highly recommend it. Deb if you can catch it.
Great. Sure. We'll see. I've got I know I've got Mr.
Roosevelt on deck which is an indie darling. Nipping at the heels of Big Sick. So I'll have more more talk about movies later. But those are the two I saw this week.
Otherwise it's been some TV's back. I haven't seen some mid-season or what would you call the mid-season premiere I guess. What happens after the mid-season break? It's called the winter premiere but still.
Winter premiere great. I haven't seen it have gifted but man that gifted mid-season finale. I should have seen coming. Oh you don't want it to oil.
No no it's fine if you spoil it but what I think is interesting is now that Disney has bought Fox. They're not canceling and renewing things the same way they used to and I think that's really good for Fox because a lot of times with Fox it was like hey you get eight episodes and if you're not a hit we're fucking canceling you. I'm hoping gifted keeps going because it's been great. Especially with the reveal of and I should have seen it once again.
Having read the comics I should have seen it coming a mile away and I didn't. That's something gross and this is that I fucking don't even think about it. What I think is interesting about gifted though is the way that the reviews are being written is that people are being very careful not to reveal too much of the plot line. They're like the shows great the shows interesting.
But we don't want to tell anything you tell you anything about it because we want to tell you that they want you to go and vlog. Well I'm not that I'm not one of those reviewers so I'm going to say this right now. The minute I saw a telepath named Esme I should have put it fucking together that she was one of the cuckoos which is from the Great Morrison Run of Axeman but the thing is I haven't seen the Winter premiere so I have no idea like what I mean it's like fine I'll spoil it the cuckoos are in it whether you read the comic or not. I'll see you get that name.
The cuckoos? No Esme. Yeah well it's kind of terrifying when you know the cuckoos from the comics but the three one. And that just makes me think of Sam Man series.
Yeah that's the whole point. Exactly. Where they go into another Birds Nest and take over. Yeah it's the three and one it's these three identical sisters well they start as quintuplas.
I think they might start as four as opposed to three. One winds up murdered. One of the bands up married. And they're becoming the three and one which is like they become like an almost.
That's a bastardized version of the Holy 20. Yeah I don't think they're going for else more so than I was on that one. But they in the future they ended becoming like almost a biological cerebro. And that's kind of their thing.
And they're like these like greatest telepaths as long as they're all together the three and one. So to see the cuckoos come in I was going to a deep cut for characters. Well it's also the same thing they did for the Dark Knight Rises though. Like you never thought that Talia was going to be the billion.
Mother yeah that's one of those I'm pissed I should have seen the comic. Well like I said that was kind of a deep cut too though because if I asked you. But it wasn't that was the thing that it wasn't he already had Rachelle Yes but they never talked about him having children. No they didn't.
Well unless you paid them to the flashback which makes total sense. But like I said it's just one of those things where if I had asked you ten years ago if Talia would ever be a main villain in that man. Exactly. No.
Bing yes Joker absolutely. Rachelle yeah. But Talialelelele. Nope.
I'm going to cite maybe a side villain with Rachellele but you're right. And it's interesting considering in the Arrowbirds how important this has been as well. Yeah yeah well and you got to tell you like what two seasons ago. Talia popped up.
No I just don't remember how long ago it was. I didn't want to ask you about something kind of similar to that though. Netflix has been recommending to me to watch a series called What Happened in Monday. That's not a series it's a series or a movie.
I think it's a series. I think it's a movie. I have it looked it. What happened in Monday with the Seven Girls.
Yeah it's all right. It's a little confusing. Well it's no Orphan Black all right. It's I didn't like it.
But it's because I kind of walked in expecting something different and I kind of went oh that's what it is. And it's not to say that it was bad I just wasn't a fan. Okay. Is this?
Am I going to move it? I just know that Netflix keeps telling me I know what happened on Monday. It's about these seven sisters where it's like a dystopian society. And I said there's only supposed to be one of them so they have different days.
So they yeah and then one falls in love and holding fucking falls apart. It's that kind of a story. I like that happens all the time but you know what I mean. Like it's that kind of what's in love and a utopia or dystopia doesn't work.
I think it actually to me it was more a little bit like the prestige where you can't have more than one person living one life. Does that make sense? Yes and that's if you walk into what happened on Monday with that you'll like it just one. Okay well it's just you know when the prestige it doesn't make sense until the end when you realize they were two different people.
Because it's the prestige. Yeah but like I said in both of them loved different women. Yeah but they could never be fully themselves. Yeah poor.
Poor other Christian Bale having to fuck George Johnson. Yeah poor him. Oh no. Oh yeah.
Poor baby. But it's the whole line where he's talking to the wife at one point. Says I can tell when you're lying. Yeah like I said some days when he says I love you he really means it and some days when he says it doesn't.
Yeah. And when they do the reveal at the end and you're like oh fuck that makes sense. It's you often bigger yeah. Oh fuck bad noise.
Sorry. The doctor who christmas special was a couple weeks ago. We said goodbye to Capaldi. I love you more happy about this.
I didn't like Capaldi. Yeah that's why I love it when I'm happy about it. I'm an ambivalent. I think Capaldi's a very talented actor.
I didn't like him as a doctor. I love him at the beginning not so much at the end. Sonic sunglasses. Yeah that was at the end.
And the fact that they have David Bradley who plays the first doctor shit on those were like kick those off. You're indoors. Like every time he puts them on his head it goes off. It was really funny.
I honestly expect that the doctor's parting speech as every doctor has during regeneration. I don't want to go. That was 11 right? That was no that wasn't Matt Smith.
