If Cattle Decapitation had called it quits after the release of The Harvest Floor, their career would have been considered exceptional. After spending the better part of a decade touring the world and churning out a series of genre-defining records, what more did they need to prove? This question can be liberating for an artist. This is exactly the mindset that ushered in a “2nd career” for Cattle Decapitation. The band challenged themselves, beginning their long-standing relationship with producer (and practically 5th member) Dave Otero, who helped sculpt their sound for a new era. The albums that emerged perfectly blended the abrasiveness of black metal, the atmosphere of post-metal, and a refined version of the death metal fans had grown to love.
