24. Kedoshim 5779: The Power of Saying, "Boruch Hashem."

Let us begin with the question of, which came first, the chicken or the egg? In other words, when someone uses cynicism, cockiness or negativity as a way of speech, which came first, his being cynical, cocky or negative, or did he first begin to speak this way, which then turned him that way? I will suggest one of the two following possibilities, as I see it: i) His form of speech was actually a form of emotional self-protection, and that in truth he was neither cynical, cocky or negative. Speaking this way was just his way of not allowing himself to get hurt by expectations, to peer-pressure or to criticism. And, now, he has become cynical, cocky or negative. ii) He may have had some of these traits, but quite soft and few, which now became exasperated and developed to uncontrollable patterns. Thus, either way, the speech either literally came first, or turned a mole hill into a mountain. However, this can be used to our advantage, by using this tool of speech for developing lovingness, caring-ness, and optimism. Additionally, we will learn in this lecture, how to use this tool to draw and magnify this reaction from G-d within our lives, of having G-d’s benevolence, unconditional love, and grace in our lives. This lecture is based primarily on a maamor the Rebbe delivered on this Shabbat, in 1965, exploring the power of the produce of the fifth year, following the first three years of orlah and the fourth year of netah revai
