24. Serial Killers: Dorothea Puente & Amelia Dyer

from Pink Collar: A True Crime Podcast · host Pink Collar Pod

Don't forget to leave an iTunes review, we will say thanks by donating $1 to the National Center for Victims of Crime! This week, we finally cover two cases of female serial killers. Rachel's case takes a look at the woman behind California's infamous "Murder House". Dorothea Puente seemed like a sweet, old lady, often clad in big glasses and flowy sweaters. Dorothea, however, was not to be trusted. She would take people struggling with alcohol abuse and homelessness into her boarding home. Dorothea would then kill them with high doses of prescription medications, bury them in her backyard, and then start collecting their benefits checks. Nathalie tells the story of England's most prolific serial killer, Amelia Dyer. Amelia would post advertisements in the newspaper, posing as a family looking to adopt a child. In the late 1800's, young, unwed mothers did not many options for giving away their children and trusted that they would be taken care of. Unfortunately, this was not the case. Amelia placed them in homes at first, but then started killing the children and keeping the adoption fees herself. After dumping a body in a river, police were able to track Amelia down and put a stop to her murder streak.
