September 13th Dear Parents, We’re going to have a great upcoming week. Below is a short description of what’s coming up and important links and/or announcements: We are nearly ¼ of the way through 6th grade. Our class had read 85,000 pages and 6th grade has read nearly 300,000 pages since the beginning of the year! Wow! Sweatshirt Order Form Talent Show Sign-Ups (Auditions September 19th 5:30p): Grade 4-6 Audition Link Opening Number Link Stage Crew Link 6th Grade Dance MC Link Sign Up for Mustang Milers DARE Graduation Monday October 28th, 1:30-2:30p in the MPR Reader’s Workshop We are shifting gears to a new part of our Setting Up a Powerful Reading Life Unit where the focus is on envisioning and prediction, two essential reading skills that undergird comprehension. The students will continue setting goals with a partner and working on predicting and getting an introduction to studying characters. Writer’s Workshop We will write our final Information book for this unit and turn it in on Friday. We are going to celebrate by having an information fair on Friday that other students will be invited to. Math We will continue our Introduction to Ratios unit. This week we studied double number lines, triple number lines, and ratio tables. We will put these ideas together next week to solve ratio problems with ratio tables. The kids will have their end of Unit Assessment on Thursday. Math Answers and Help Here. History We will continue our study of Ancient Mesopotamia for Lesson 1 and Lesson 2 (still working on this. We will review Lesson 2 and study for a Mesopotamia test which we will take on Friday. Science In preparation for the upcoming science fair we will be studying about research skills.
