243. Painting the Feminine Figure with Carmel Jenkin

This week’s episode features Australia-based artist Carmel Jenkin. Carmel has built her art business up to what most artists aspire to live up to one day: Someone who creates from the heart rather than constantly running on the commission hamster wheel. Yep, she paints whatever she wants and that happens to be a series of abstract female figures. Her unique niche has attracted the attention of multiple collectors, and she even did a pregnant woman series which I was very intrigued by given my current pregnant status at the time of this interview. Carmel shares how she built her art business around such an emotionally charged niche and her strategies for selling. There’s a lot of energy and knowledge that can come from someone like her who is currently in the thick of figuring out her methods through trial and error, all while having some big wins along the way. She’s an open book about this crazy but fun art business rollercoaster ride.
