244 - The Rise and Fall of the Megalopolian Empire

from Heat Death of the Universe

We review Francis Ford Coppola's polarizing, self-funded, $120 million dollar, sci-fi epic, Megalopolis. A film forty plus years in the making, which possibily predicted 9/11, is jammed full of oft-disjointed dialogue, Shakespearean theatrics, experimental cinematography and effects, allegedly THC-fueled throughout, undergirded by undergraduate philosophical fixations, bepopulate with very talented performers, and despite most people's reactions, positive or less than, there seems to be a large consensus that it's at the very least, interesting. Is it the (intentionally) funniest movie possibly of all time? Or does it lean more toward being a $120 million dollar Neal Breen vanity project? Will this cinematic-celluloidal instantiation be the catalyst the world needs to begin asking the questions that lead to the dialogue to the conversation that is our very utopia? We sort through some "time, consciousness, and courage", i.e. thoughts and theories, to try to get to the bottom of it all.Commiserate on Discord: discord.gg/aDf4Yv9PrYSupport: patreon / buzzsproutNever Forget: standwithdanielhale.orgGenral RecommendationsJosh's Recommendations: Aubrey Plaza Double Feature: 1) Ingrid Goes West 2) Emily the CriminalTim's Recommendations: 1) The Penguin 2) Help Bailey Beat Cancer: Surgery NeededFurther Reading, Viewing, ListeningShow notes + Full list of links, sources, etcMore From Joshua Nomen-MutatioSome Fiction WritingAn ongoing novel: The Feeding StageA short story: Lydia's DriveA short story: The Form AwardsMore From Timothy Robert BuechnerPodcast: Q&T ARE / violentpeople.co Tweets: @ROHDUTCHLocationless Locationsheatdeathpod.comEvery show-related link is corralled and available here.Twitter: @heatdeathpodPlease send all Letters of Derision, Indifference, Inquiry, Mild Elation, et cetera to: [email protected] us Fan MailSupport the showSupport: patreon / buzzsprout
