It became a New York Times Best-Seller for an astonishing 216 weeks. In fact, it is the longest-standing New York Times Best-Seller. The book is set in Savannah, Georgia and was made into a movie in 1997. The film received great acclaim and was directed by Clint Eastwood, starring Kevin Spacey and John Cusack. In 2005, Berendt released his second book The City of Falling Angels. It was good fortune indeed to be able to interview John Berendt.
