25. Brian Wood on Developing/Running a Leading Retail Real Estate Company in the Southeast

from DevelopLex · host Middle Tech

Brian gained his expertise in the construction and real estate industries the old-fashioned way: through hands-on experience. As a kid, working on the farm with his grandfather taught him important lessons about a strong work ethic. At just 22, he purchased a 31,000-square-foot retail shopping center, which he owned and managed while continuing to build and expand his construction business and residential rentals to 100 units. Through the process, Brian chose to focus on retail real estate and organized BC Wood Companies (later renamed BC Wood Properties). Today, BC Wood Properties has around 4,000,000 sf and 25 properties in it’s portfolio. In this episode we were able to discuss the leap of going from single family home to shopping center investment, syndicating large real estate deals, and the kitty-gritty of acquisition, leasing, management, etc of Retail Real Estate.
