25 - Do The Right Thing (TEASER)

In this week’s Patron-only teaser, we ask ourselves, “Did Mookie do the right thing?” Spike Lee’s powerful 1989 film has us grappling with big issues and cracking jokes to keep things light — because we’re incapable of being serious for more than five minutes at a time. Not only is this movie an exploration of racism, police brutality, and rebellion, it’s also packed full of amazing actors who deliver stellar performances. As per usual on this podcast, things get weird. We break into song, reference Rick and Morty, and make each other laugh with wild tangents about Will Smith, picking noses, and why gentrification is actually really great. Listen now for two hours of laughs and movie quotes, along with some serious discussion about racism in America courtesy of this still-relevant film. Do The Right Thing is a 1989 comedy-drama written and directed by Spike Lee, who also plays the protagonist, Mookie. It stars Danny Aiello, John Turturro, Samuel L. Jackson, Ossie Davis, Giancarlo Esposito, Ruby Dee, Richard Edson, Bill Nunn, Rosie Perez, and Martin Lawrence. This is an excerpt from the Patron-only episode.
