Die EN IEC 61508 Normenreihe "Funktionale Sicherheit elektrischer/ elektronischer/ programmierbarer elektronischer Systeme" versteht sich als Sicherheitsgrundnorm. Mit dieser Norm werden die Anforderungen an Sicherheitssysteme in der Anlagensicherheit definiert. Die letzte, zweite Ausgabe aus dem Jahr 2010 wird aktuell überarbeitet. Die Diskussionen im Zuge der Überarbeitung drehen sich beispielsweise um Fragen, wie künftig mit der Cybersecurity bei der Auslegung funktional sicherer Systeme umgegangen werden soll.
